Couldn’t finish
Revisado: 08-21-24
I just can’t keep going with this book. It’s boring and the main relationship is so unhealthy it’s disturbing. And the constant drinking just feels like someone ran out of ideas. Will give this back.

Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard; the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters.

Great, but a bit too intensely sad
Revisado: 07-21-24
I love this book, but it gets so utterly sad at points that it is hard to listen to anywhere but home. Feel like I’ve been crying during half the book.

Otherwise absolutely fantastic and I learned a lot about the Vietnam war. Looking forward to my next book from this author.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Light and fun
Revisado: 01-30-24
I listened to the book because it was free with my Audible subscription and it had quite a few good reviews.
The book was very enjoyable apart from a few details.
The most annoying is that the whole story with the app being developed is soooooo unrealistic for a programmer... I mean how on earth can there be users of an app that hasn't even been programmed yet. That mistake just seems so easy to fix, but it's utterly blatant.
All in all it's a great listen.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

I listened to this book in two days. It couldn't put it down.
I loved the reveals.
There story isn't a feel good story, it gets kind or depressing at certain points.

Listened again after over 10 yeara
Revisado: 03-12-23
It's interesting. With the lost metal being published I decided to listen to the Mistborn series again.
I remembered that I had liked the first book best, but didn't really remember the story.
The books are great, but I remembered why I didn't think I like the last book. While it ties up all the loose ends super nicely it just has too much God feeling in it for an atheist person.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Second read was amazing
Revisado: 11-21-22
I read the book maybe 10 years ago and I loved it back then. Since I had forgotten so much of what happened and I wanted to update myself before reading Lost Metal I decided to listen to Mistborn. It's just so good even the second time around. I noticed a lot more details and highly enjoyed the experience.

Hard to get through
Revisado: 09-05-22
I listened to other books by this author and highly enjoyed them (Taj Mahal trilogy). This book started out interesting, but got so boring and predictable that it took me weeks to get through. I finished and it just never got exciting. I also found the setting weird with the letters. It's unclear who writes them which may be the point... But once you find out who wrote the letters it just feels so super weird when thinking back about what had been written. It's unrealistic that person would have known all of those facts.

Interestingly Concept and Story
Revisado: 03-17-22
I liked the story and the narrator for most parts. Its didn't knock my off my socks, but was enjoyable to listen to while doing chores.
Buuut:
French was pronounced badly throughput. The most annoying thing is that the last name of the main character was constantly mispronounced. French ist only my 3rd language after German and English.
