Historia
Resourceful, adventurous and utterly indefatigable, Sophy is hardly the mild-mannered girl that the Rivenhalls expect when they agree to take her in. Kind-hearted Aunt Lizzy is shocked; stern Cousin Charles and his humorless fiancée Eugenia are disapproving. With her inimitable mixture of exuberance and grace Sophy soon sets about endearing herself to her family, but finds herself increasingly drawn to her cousin. Can she really be falling in love with him, and he with her? And what of his betrothal to Eugenia?

Great to have it unabridged!
Revisado: 04-29-14
What made the experience of listening to The Grand Sophy the most enjoyable?
Georgette Heyer is so authentic. They are not just romance novels, she manages to take one back into the Georgian England of the aristocracy and she dwells on the more pleasurable side of life. Though we do get a little insight into the true nature of life, with arranged marriages in this story.
What did you like best about this story?
The interplay between hero and heroine, and the audaciousness of Sophy as she pushed the social boundaries. I was intrigued by Georgette Heyer's imagination as she weaved the plots in this story.
Which scene was your favorite?
The end scene of course, when Charles and Sophy finally got together.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh and it made me feel happy as I plunged into the roller coaster of partings and coming together of Charles and Sophy.
Any additional comments?
It provided what I need at this moment in my life, a journey of escapism as my job can deal with the more harrowing side of life, so I look to escape when I relax. But escapism which doesn't insult my intelligence and Georgette Heyer for me - fits the bill.

Historia
It was a horrible death: Maurice Questing was lured into a pool of boiling mud and left there to die. Chief Inspector Roderick Alleyn, far from home on a wartime quest for German agents, knew that any number of people could have killed him: the English exiles he'd hated, the New Zealanders he'd despised, or the Maoris he'd insulted. Even the spies he'd thwarted...if he wasn't a spy himself.

An oldie but a goodie!
Revisado: 03-24-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Colour Scheme to be better than the print version?
I like listening to my audio books when it is inconvenient for me to read! However, I find I am listening to them more and more! I am currently doing research and it is nice to relax with something light.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Colour Scheme?
I liked the fact that it was set against the background of the NZ boiling mud, which I have visited.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I listened to it in more than one sitting!

What did you love best about The Toll-Gate?
A little bit of adventure - a little bit of romance - enough authenticity not to insult the intelligence and Georgette Heyer writes so well, it is easy to be lost in her world!

A social and cultural pericope of a time past
Revisado: 04-19-11
I really enjoyed this novel. Set in the early 20th century in Australia, it gives us a glimpse into a different society and a different culture. It gives us an insight into an amazing people, the Australian Aborigine, who like indigenous peoples all over the globe, their mental and spiritual gifts have been lost in the whirlpool of European culture.

As usual Georgette Heyer does more than tell a love story, she presents her stories in history and we have an insight into what life was like for women and for those who were not born into the aristocracy and how most women had no control over their lives.

Historia
The Earl of Spenborough has always been noted for his eccentricity. Leaving a widow younger than his own daughter Serena is one thing, but quite another is leaving Serena's fortune to the trusteeship of the Marquis of Rotherham -- a man whom Serena once jilted and who now has the power to give or withhold his consent to any marriage she might contemplate. When Serena and her lovely young stepmother Fanny decide to move to Bath, Serena makes an odd new friend and discovers an old love, Major Hector Kirkby.

I really enjoyed Faye Kellerman's A Ritual Bath. Authentically set in the Jewish culture it had just the right amount of depth, intrigue and romance to make it a 'must keep listening'! Can we please have some more of Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus stories, especially the early ones and please keep them in the unabridged format.
