The female characters have personalities, and fight their own fights, and i can tell the difference between how them based on how they are written! In this genre this is hard to find and worth 3 stars on its own.
Otherwise a pretty enjoyable book. MC is OP but in a way that makes sense but it isnt the solution to all problems and the final villian is equally OP in different ways. another big plus.
overall i very much enjoyed this and can wait for a sequel.

Starts good but drops off fast and far. Mecha combat, as little as there is, is dull and weightless. The gearbreakers have taken down HUNDREDS of mecha with only a few casualties, which make the war seem very off balance. of course the fact they have wizard gloves that shoot lava and ice helps.

The love story is okay, I like where it was going until one girl, in a fit of anger, tries to kill the other. they then play it off as no big deal heehee. like that shouldn't be an immediate dealbreaker.

My biggest complaint is the authors fear of transitions. scene changes happen so abruptly it felt like people were teleporting. at one point there is a small time skip and I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't pointed out in awkward dialog.

The narrator does a very poor job making the 2 main characters sound different. and the ending was so unsatisfying I regretted getting all the way through it.

first of all the description is just a flat out lie, the character mentioned dies about one paragraph into the book. thats true for most characters actually; learn about them, their past, their hope, and then watch them be horribly murdered a paragraph later.

the main character, a mimic, is an amoral monster who just wants to eat and grow stronger to eat more. the book seems to be 40% looking at menus, 40% people being ripped apart and eaten and 20% character development from people about to be ripped apart and eaten.

the people calling this "lighthearted" honestly worry me.

from the description I figured instead of generic dungeons runs the MC would have to do things more like Minecraft or other survival games. start small, craft some essentials, build a house then a town then a world.
Instead the MC punches some ants to death and does a dungeon run. sure later he starts seeding metal into the core of a planet in the hope of jumpstarting a dynamo effect so that the plate tectonics zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
it doesnt help that the main character is the biggest Gary Sue I've ever read. or is he just your average #1 top ranked gamer with a perfect muscular body, trained in various martial arts, and who is also able to calculate planetary mineral ratios in his god damn head.
And I didnt like where the harem aspect was going. I mean he killed a woman (admittedly a dungeon boss) then cloned her and then gave the clone a more subservient personality. maybe it's just me but an Invasion of the Body Snatchers harem just sounds gross. I might be wrong, I stopped listening with 4 hours left at the hobgoblin planet but the writing was on the wall.

Hope you like hearing that over and over and over. Very repetitive story both in how it's written and what's happening. Hope you like contract negotiations with various busy supernatural creatures until near the end when it decides to have some action.
Also the harem is too big. Now I know that's the entire point of the book but hear me out. there is like 10+ girls in his harem, so you only get a scene with each girl once (or less). You dont get time to know many of them and then when they are all in a group in can easily get confusing who is what.

Full of wooden writing, mechanical vocal performance, and tons of contrivances. I tried to finish but just couldn't.
