Historia
In Herefordshire's hop-growing country, a converted kiln is the scene of a savage murder. When the local vicar refuses to help its new owners cope with the aftermath, Merrily Watkins is sent in by the Bishop of Hereford to defuse the situation. Merrily, however, is already contending with a woman's claim that her daughter is possessed by evil. In both cases Merrily remains unconvinced, but nothing is ever quite what it seems.

Spellbinding
Revisado: 11-21-09
Rickman once again weaves his fascinating fabric of the supernatural, the criminal, and the folklore of the countryside. While I normally listen to audio books while driving or doing chores, Rickman's stories so ensnare me that I find myself sitting down and just listening for much longer than I planned.
Ms. Powell is a wonderful narrator and makes the characters come alive. She enchants the reader with the distinctive local accents.
I only wish all the Merrily books were available on Audible.

Historia
Convalescing in Sandytown, Dalziel befriends Charlotte Heywood who is researching the benefits of alternative therapy. With much in common, the two soon find themselves in league when trouble comes to town. Sandytown's principal landowners have grandiose plans for the resort -- none of which they can agree on. One of them has to go, and when one of them does, in spectacularly gruesome fashion, DCI Peter Pascoe is called in to investigate -- with Dalziel and Charlotte providing unwelcome support.

Superintendent Dalziel come to life
Revisado: 11-04-09
The format that Hill uses in this book - third person narration alternating with emails from a young woman and a series of stream of consciousness recordings by none other than Andy Dalziel makes for a lively and entertaining listen. In particular hearing the observations of Dalziel - rude, crude and very funny - make him come alive for the listener. The narrator is excellent and makes each character distinctive and believable.

They think there is one way to lose five pounds, and another way to stay on top of their e-mail, but they don't realize that for all changes, there is one system that works best for each individual.

Excellent Content/So-So reading
Revisado: 06-25-09
It is a shame that Ms. Ryan chose to read this book herself. Her reading isn't awful, but the quality varies and her delivery is sometimes amateurish. That being said, I have listened to the book several times because I find the content to be excellent - very motivating and helpful in making changes. Ms. Ryan has very good suggestions and examples of how to go about making lasting change. She also addresses some of the biological reasons why change is difficult and approaches that help overcome our resistance. Listen to the sample and decide for yourself on her delivery. Her message is definitely worth listening to. I'd have given it 5 stars if only the reading were more professional.

Wonderfully satisfying story
Revisado: 09-24-06
Setterfield has written a contemporary novel that has all the elements of a juicy Victorian novel - complicated plot lines filled with family secrets, governesses, young women seeking their pasts, characters one really cares about and a forward motion to the plot that keeps one listening late into the night. Both narrators are pitch perfect and Bianco Amato's expressive voice with its underlying sadness creates a wonderfully atmospheric effect that suits the story perfectly. Highly recommended.
