Historia
England, 1914. The world is at war. Captain Hastings, injured and shaken, is invited to Styles Court to recover. It’s a grand old country house - the family home of his old friend - and a perfect haven. Or so it seems. But in the blistering summer heat, trouble is afoot. Simmering tensions are tearing the family apart, and it all comes to a head in the most horrifying way.

Marvelously Well Done!
Revisado: 01-13-25
Peter Dinklage as Hercule Poirot is spectacular - almost, almost rivaling that of David Suchet. Almost. Well done.

A Brilliant Piece of Caribbean Literature
Revisado: 07-12-24
Engaging from beginning to end. Relevant. Timely. Beautiful. Bittersweet. Persuad gives life to her characters in a way that is reminiscent of V.S. Naipaul and equal to the likes of Chimamanda Adiche and Zadie Smith. "Love After Love" is a classic to be sure. 10/10.

A Must Read For Do-ers!
Revisado: 11-11-22
This is quite possibly the best book every written on Corporate Management and Productivity. Government entities, private companies, small businesses - Bregman has laid out in the simplest language, how those who want to achieve tasks and increase productivity actually get it done. This book shot for well enough and achieved perfection. Five stars.

Historia
Like millions of her millennial peers, Rachel Held Evans didn't want to go to church anymore. The hypocrisy, the politics, the gargantuan building budgets, the scandals - church culture seemed so far removed from Jesus. Yet despite her cynicism and misgivings, something kept drawing her back. And so she set out on a journey to understand the Church and to find her place in it.

A Must Read!
Revisado: 04-15-21
If I could, I would thank Rachel Evans in person for writing this book. I would want to give her the BIGGEST bear hug and say, "Yes woman! Thank you for writing about the experiences that many a woman has had in the Protestant/Evangelical Church. Thank you for exposing and unpacking all these truths in one place!" I wish this book was around 20 years ago when so many young women were simultaneously being encouraged to seek and press for God while being encouraged to pull pack and remain pigeon holed to the church's ideals for, well, "The Churched". This book was a page turner, with gems in each chapter. Read it. Just Read it. (And Thanks Again, Rachel).

Historia
In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

Revisado: 04-25-20
The Half-Life of Marie Curie is engaging, evocative and elegantly written. The interactions of Marie and Hertha, the conversation, the questions raised; the comments, the quotes! Thank you Lauren Gunderson for writing this. It is a powerful piece of literature. Can we please turn this into a movie?

Historia
Jacob and Solomon were polygamists. Tamar and Rahab were prostitutes. What are polygamists and prostitutes doing on the pages of holy scripture? And God told the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute. What about Cain - did he really marry his sister? Abraham did, and he was also a polygamist. Lot offered his daughters up for rape, David committed adultery (or rape?), and the Bible calls both men righteous. Love, Old Testament style, was bizarre.

Who isn't a sodomist? Well done David Lamb!
Revisado: 03-04-17
Polygamists and Prostitutes by David T Lamb is now my favourite Christian Book of Theology. Not for the faint of heart, solid, well written and defended; this book gives a forthright and witty description of the truth of the Bible. For example, King David was a racist, Abraham was a pimp, God loved the Sodomites; Homosexuality is not discussed in the Old Testament; Polygamy is not ideal but not necessarily a sin etc. As I said, it's not for your typical, faint of heart, milk diet Christian. This is solid food business. I dare you to try it.
