Historia
Gloucestershire, 1813. Miss Mary Lound of Tapley End would be the first to say that she demonstrates more grace with a fishing rod in her hand than she might ever twirling in a ballroom. This was not, however, a problem until her ne'er-do-well brother sold the family estate, leaving Mary and her mother in very straitened circumstances. When the new owner, Sir Rowland Kempsey, takes up residence, Mary decides to direct her energies into recovering her beloved home by catching a husband.

Delightful
Revisado: 03-05-25
Excellent narrator enhances this story, which will especially appeal to fans of Jane Austen. It's a pleasure to follow the thoughts and emotions of a small cast of characters as they navigate falling in love. An unusual heroine adds to the plot which, although simple, is enjoyable.

Excellent narrator, enjoyable story
Revisado: 02-27-25
Excellent narrator adds greatly to this gently humorous story. Despite a slow beginning, by the middle it's enjoyable to hope the appallingly selfish beauty with her temper tantrums will get her comeuppance!

Historia
Jessica de Vrais was 22, the only child of an elderly and irritable widower. Though they thought alike on almost all matters, they agreed on none; least of all did they see eye to eye on the subject of men. Jessica, pretty and popular, invited them to come and stay; Mr. de Vrais, irritable and suspicious, invited them to go away and stay away. Fortune-hunters all, he said furiously to his daughter. One and all, they were after her money - his money. One look, he shouted, and he could smell them a mile off. Hangers-on. Yahoos. Parasites.

Delightful
Revisado: 02-25-25
Excellent narrator enhances this lighthearted story of gentle romance and humor, set in the lovely French countryside. The English and French characters are charming, except for the extremely unpleasant Countess (every story needs a villain!) and the shady Hubert. A wonderful and totally unexpected surprise twist occurs near the end of the story.

Superb narrator
Revisado: 02-10-25
Excellent murder mystery with a large cast of suspects, all of whom are given distinct voices and accents by the superb narrator, David Suchet. Don't be put off from listening to this book by the horribly annoying voice of the first character who speaks at the beginning of the story. Although her voice suits her personality, it's a relief when the story shifts away to other people, and she is rarely heard again.

Wonderful story and narrator
Revisado: 01-30-25
What a pleasure to hear witty and very funny banter, made even more humorous by a gifted narrator. The hero is wonderful, both protective of and sensitive to the heroine. It's refreshing to enjoy an unusual romance, that takes the time to build from friendship to love, while the hero and heroine rescue an endearing street urchin and pursue villains. It's also unusual and enjoyable to see how the couple fares after marrying. And this story ties together beautifully with the other two wonderful stories in this series, which is a tribute to the author's skill.

Historia
Just after midnight on April 15, 1912, the passenger steamship Carpathia receives a distress signal from the largest passenger liner ever built, RMS Titanic, which is on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York. Captain Arthur Rostron is awakened to an enormous maritime emergency with little information to guide his actions in answering the call for help. Is the dire threat to the unsinkable Titanic accurate? His ship is more than four hours away; will Carpathia hold together if pushed to never-before-tested speeds?

Inspiring true story
Revisado: 01-05-25
Moving and inspiring true story of the Carpathian's Captain and his brave rescue of the Titanic survivors. The Captain's resolute determination to save as many people as possible, and the risks and hard work he and his entire crew endured to make it safely through the countless icebergs at top speed in the dark winter night are remarkable. The devout Captain continued to act honorably while ensuring the rescued passengers were cared for aboard his ship. A male narrator is very good as the Captain, and a female narrator sings beautifully several haunting hymns during a memorial service aboard ship.

Had it not been for the scent bottles, it is unlikely that Daniel Shelbourne, Viscount Reculver, and Anna Hawthorne of Hawthorne’s Porcelain would ever have met. Daniel’s late father left him an impoverished estate – which he had expected – and unexplained debts, which he hadn’t. Anna inherited a thriving business, along with the knowledge and passion required to run it.

Wonderful story and narrator
Revisado: 12-15-24
Excellent story with superb narrator. The two main characters slowly get to know and appreciate each other, which makes their eventual love very believable. This novel of an arranged marriage begins with a subtle tribute to Georgette Heyer's A Civil Contract, but this is a much happier story. The intelligent heroine is unusual because she is considered plain, and because she is devoted to successfully running the art pottery inherited from her father.

Great narrator, unusual storyline
Revisado: 11-04-24
Superb narrator and delightful heroine in an unusual storyline that revolves around rumors of mental illness and murder in the hero's family. Hero's best friend adds humor, and brief Shakespeare quotes by the cheerful, adventurous, heroine help balance the serious subject matter.
