Historia
So what if it's true that Black women are mad as hell? They have the right to be. In the Black feminist tradition of Audre Lorde, Brittney Cooper reminds us that anger is a powerful source of energy that can give us the strength to keep on fighting. Far too often, Black women's anger has been caricatured into an ugly and destructive force that threatens the civility and social fabric of American democracy. But Cooper shows us that there is more to the story than that.

One of the best books I’ve ever read

Cooper understands this moment better than most. She articulates the intersection with race and gender through personal story, examination of her own trauma, and historical facts. She’s simply brilliant

In Smart People Should Build Things, this self-described "recovering lawyer" and entrepreneur weaves together a compelling narrative of success stories (including his own), offering observations about the flow of talent in the United States and explanations of why current trends are leading to economic distress and cultural decline. He also presents recommendations for both policy makers and job seekers to make entrepreneurship more realistic and achievable.

Overall good, but limited in scope
Revisado: 05-28-20
This is a very interesting perspective on how to solve social issues by redirecting the post college talent pipeline into startups. I do agree with the other reviewers that it seems like a giant advertisement for Venture For America which severely limits its scope. The book could have been strengthened by realizing the large scope of potential readers and how to apply the lessons Yang has learned. What about people in their 30s? What about people who didn’t graduate from Ivys? How can they use their talents to do more social good? Even simply suggesting ways to get involved with the companies in VFA’s portfolio could have sufficed. The book seems to be an additional recruitment tool rather a larger moral reimagining of society.

An inspiring personal story of redemption, second chances, and the transformative power within us all, from the founder and CEO of the nonprofit charity: water. In the tradition of such best-selling books as Shoe Dog and Mountains Beyond Mountains, Thirst is a riveting account of how to build a better charity, a better business, a better life - and a gritty tale that proves it’s never too late to make a change.

Great story just one thing missing
Revisado: 05-06-20
This was an excellent book that showed an honest journey of transformation. The only thing I wish he would have touched on is the obvious white savior dynamic that is present when westerners help Africans. He didn’t need to solve it or really apologize for it, it just certainly would have strengthened his cause to at least mention he was aware of the dynamic.

Good but tons of moral accusations
Revisado: 02-10-16
I want to start by saying this is a good book on the subject. If you're looking for new law of attraction techniques, this book along with the first one definitely delivers.
My only gripe is that it presents subjective moral beliefs as fact and then ties them to LOA. For instance saying curse words are going to attract negativity, or atoning for your mistakes, and even going as far to say what charities to donate to. One of the basic fundamentals of LOA, is that the law is impartial. It is as objective as the law of gravity. It doesn't matter if you're an angel or a criminal, you are still using the LOA. So for someone to inject his own moral beliefs is a contradiction. Morals are opinions, and opinions can be limiting in nature.
Secondly, with all the talk about limiting beliefs, morality can oftentimes stir up feelings of guilt. Which as we all know, guilt can manifest in your desires. If you hold a belief that lying is always bad (which the author states) then of course when you lie you find evidence to support it.
I'm not saying any of this advice is bad. Of course we should be kind and try to be honest. But it's important to notice that alignment trumps morality. There are CEOs of companies that lied on their resume and famous comedians that curse like sailors! Did ALL those people NOT use the loa to get to where they want?

Inspirational and a rude awakening for some
Revisado: 05-26-15
Gary V knows what he is talking about. Though this book was published in 2009, many of the broader themes are still being faced today. Get on to your dreams before someone else does!
