Felt like yet another "men are jerks" novel. Females were all heros. Sooo many unanswered questions + the ending was a dud. Excessive use of spicy language. Used to like Imogen Church as a narrator but now it seems like she is training to narrate an American mini series ( one reason I like British narrators is that they aren't usually melodramatic & quippy) I made it through because I thought there would be some kind of pay off but no. I kept going back and listening to the end to see if I had missed something lol

The strong sense of difference that surrounded them even featured in the plays that were written and performed for the thriving theatre culture of the time.In this edition of Not ...

I really used to love this podcast.

It used to have interesting tidbits about the Tudor period that were enjoyable to listen to and informative. It seems to have been overtaken by wackiness lately. Please return to your roots! This particular episode was a doozy!

This book is a disservice to her & the narration was silly. Thankfully, it wasn't very long.

Don't Miss This One!
Revisado: 04-25-17
Where does The Practice House rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Pretty far up on the list :)
What other book might you compare The Practice House to and why?
Family saga, there are many out there, but this is a refreshingly unique one.
Have you listened to any of Angela Dawe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, and she is a good narrator. The little girl's voice was a little annoying, but the rest well done.
Any additional comments?
This was a book I was on the fence about, but when the 50% sale came around, I decided to try it and am glad I did. Great writing and story. Narration was overall well done. I might wish that the main characters acted in a more noble way, but it was written so as you did feel sympathetic to their foibles.

Historia
Mary Coles and her husband, Graham, have just moved to a cottage on the edge of a small village. The house hasn't been lived in for years, but they are drawn to its original features and surprisingly large garden, which stretches down into a beautiful apple orchard. It's idyllic, remote, picturesque: exactly what they need to put the horror of the past behind them.

If you can put up with a terrible ending........
Revisado: 06-07-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not sure I would ever recommend. If a friend asked me what I thought about them reading it, I would have plenty to say. :) Definitely an interesting premise and the book keeps you interested pretty much all the way through. Perhaps that is why the ending is so frustrating.
Would you recommend The Stopped Heart to your friends? Why or why not?
See above. Also, some of the subject matter is not for the faint of heart or squeamish. I really felt like giving up on it because of that, but I so badly wanted to see what happened. So it was equally frustrating to put myself thru it all and end up with basically NOTHING. (I did fast forward several times, always an option...
Which character – as performed by Elizabeth Knowelden and Lucinda Clare – was your favorite?
Can't say that any of them captured my admiration. And they sure said "what" a lot ( all of them!)
Did The Stopped Heart inspire you to do anything?
Other than try to figure out why the author would so badly leave everyone hanging, no.
Any additional comments?
Narration was good for the most part.

A real treat, but the ending....grr!
Revisado: 06-24-15
Would you listen to A Slant of Light again? Why?
I would if I knew there would be more to the story. It seemed to end at a point that made you wonder if you had only been listening to part one.
Have you listened to any of Stephen McLaughlin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Many
Any additional comments?
One of the best of the year, but be prepared to be a bit dumbfounded at the end.
