Historia
Many political and cultural events sent shock waves through the Irish world in the 19th and early 20th centuries as Ireland gradually shook off the shackles of British rule. Alongside a long and painful political process arose one of the greatest flourishings of literature in modern times - a spirited discourse among those who sought to shape their nation's future, finding the significance of their bloody present intimately entwined with their legendary past.

Decent overview
Revisado: 07-07-23
Fairly balanced, but there were a few annoying instances of the lecturer’s patriarchical viewpoint clouding the presentation of information.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Great insights on relationships, effective interventions for trauma, and historical context of the development of these interventions.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Freakin amazing
Revisado: 10-13-22
This book absolutely blew my mind. I’ve just found Octavia Butler’s incredible works, and this book left a similar impression on me. The way that Ms. Jemisin constructed the story and presented it was so dynamic and enthralling. She deftly invents, defines, and tears apart social conditioning in this science-fiction world of hers. The analogies to social conditioning in the United States are mind blowing. Her ability to invent language and present normalcy of ways of being in this world are so fun and fill my heart with joy. Robin Miles performs the book with outstanding care and creativity of voices for each character. Her acting is stupendous. This is a masterful audiobook.
