Historia
For Bobbie, the normal difficulties of growing up are overshadowed by his unique condition. Bobbie's inability to communicate normally is misdiagnosed as autism, and masks the great part in history he is destined to play. His unique ability to create beautiful works of art is just the tip of the iceberg. Coveted by those who would use him for their own purpose, Bobbie and his mother flee their home out of desperation. In the course of their escape, the truth behind Bobbie's gift and its effects on the planet begin to reveal themselves, as the future of humanity hangs in the balance.

poor writing sublimely paced
Revisado: 05-20-24
A fascinating study. the book is weak. it is written at the 5th grade level with clunkers like "I noticed the flashlight was noticeably dimmer" (how did that get past an editor?). the characters are comically flat. the narrator covers many of the characters well, but some are terrible. as with the writing, a number of mispronunciations seemed to have slipped through the editing process.
Despite all that, the pacing was superb. driving home after a long day, tired and worried about falling asleep, the story kept my attention the whole way. it's as if the author plugged it into a formula for how to pace events laced with a few magic words of interest to keep the listener hanging on. either a great formula or an excellent ***intuitive sense***

great voice acting, mediocre story

weak sci-fi and plot, interesting depiction of nigerian culture in lagos, outstanding narration. i found the heavily accented voices/dialects so much fun.

Historia
The guru to the gurus at last shares his knowledge with the rest of us. Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman's seminal studies in behavioral psychology, behavioral economics, and happiness studies have influenced numerous other authors, including Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell. In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman at last offers his own, first book for the general public. It is a lucid and enlightening summary of his life's work. It will change the way you think about thinking. Two systems drive the way we think and make choices, Kahneman explains....

listening is "Thinking Fast" not Slow: read it
Revisado: 10-06-23
much of the book deals with 2 models for thinking: fast intuitive and slow calculating. unfortunately, audiobook listening is thinking fast. for example, when you are asked to consider 17 times 24, you are forced to either pause the book and calculate, or skip the experience and move on. the latter more likely if you are driving, doing chores or typical audiobook activities. furthermore, there are a number of references to figures (15 or so) which likewise require a pause etc. on the other hand, there are sections that are slow and redundant, lending themselves to faster reading. This is probably much better read then listened.
lastly, i had already read the undoing project which covers some of the author's work, making it redundant.

forget the first book, this is poorly written
Revisado: 10-04-23
this is poorly written filler. the plot, dialogue and character depth are at or below the 5th grade reading level. the "science" is embarrassingly soft. listening made me cringe.
the best part about this book is that it will make the next one so much better in comparison

light fun story
Revisado: 04-28-23
i picked this title largely because i enjoyed the narrator in
The Gone-Away World
hate vampire stories, but combining dead people and an accountant sounded too weird to be bad
light fun stories that held my interest
i have to say i can't believe it's the same narrator
amazing diversity of voices in comparison to the gone-away world
what a performer!

a fun light "pop song"
Revisado: 12-25-22
as i was listening, i was thinking, there is no depth to this, but i'm enjoying it--a fun fluffy story.
the author put it perfectly in the epilogue: he set out to write a brooding symphony, and wound up with a pop song, unable to complete a brooding work in the darkness of covid lock downs.
ps. looks like the sad puppies club is stacking the negative reviews, pay no attention.

Historia
“This isn't strictly speaking an instructional manual, but a work of comedic philosophy.” Elvis Costello - songwriter, singer, author, and Fender Jazzmaster known to his admirers as “The Little Hands of Concrete” - spins his tale with wit, grit, and spit to spare. How to Play the Guitar and Y, Costello’s new entry into Audible’s Words + Music series, combines recitation, impersonation, and musical illustration to show you how to turn a three-chord trick into a four-chord caper and let your curiosity take you where it will.

witty commentary on life and music through the filter of learning the guitar...fun stuff
who'd have thought elvis costello would be as good a writer and narrator as he is composer and performer?
obvious in retrospect
