Historia
Navsari, India. Penniless and trapped in a loveless marriage, Nirmala spends her days anxiously caring for her sick young son, Varun. Looming over Nirmala’s impoverished home is an imposing mansion built by her grandfather, and from its balcony her cruel aunt scorns them, refusing to help in any way. But when a mysterious letter addressed to her long-dead father arrives from Zimbabwe, it opens a door to a past Nirmala never knew existed and a future she never imagined possible.

A must read!
Revisado: 02-20-24
What a brilliant book. It's a rags to ritches type story and very humbling. I could really envision the environment and feel the heat as described. I thought the voiced actor did amazing considering all the characters and different accents involved. I would love to hear other books she's read. Highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Historia
Half-hidden by forest and overshadowed by threatening peaks, Le Sommet has always been a sinister place. Long plagued by troubling rumors, the former abandoned sanatorium has since been renovated into a five-star minimalist hotel. An imposing, isolated getaway spot high up in the Swiss Alps is the last place Elin Warner wants to be. But Elin's taken time off from her job as a detective, so when her estranged brother, Isaac, and his fiancée, Laure, invite her to celebrate their engagement at the hotel, Elin really has no reason not to accept.

More like a 3 1/2
Revisado: 01-17-24
This book was very slow before it picked up. The layout of the location gave me The Shining vibes but not the story. I think I could have enjoyed it more if Elin didn't get so much anxiety doing just about anything and everything. It honestly started giving me anxiety just by frustration. Her constant flashbacks to her brother dying were getting under my skin. The buildup of why the author did that made sense in the end but leading up to that point made it hard to even get to the end. I can't say I'll read this book again but I'm interested in her other stories.

Fun Read
Revisado: 01-17-24
This story had me on the edge of my seat. I've never read a book that gave me so many knots in my stomach... Up until they left the city then it all felt too far fetched and started to lose me. I still enjoyed it but no longer had nervous sweats. I feel like if you have a kid or a child you are really close to then you can easily put yourself in her shoes and this makes you the target audience. If you like suspense then don't overlook this story.

Comfort Book
Revisado: 01-17-24
I read this to get me in the Christmas spirit and it absolutely worked. I could envision the locations and characters. There was so many characters involved and I'm impressed the narrator was able to juggle them all. I finished nearly a month ago and I am still thinking about the characters and where everything left off. It would be fun to have a follow-up story to see how all their lives have changed since this book. I can see this book being a Christmas comfort story every year in the future.

Amazing Perspective
Revisado: 01-17-24
I thought this book was going to talk more about Vincent himself but that's not the story here. It's really interesting learning how Vincent went from a nobody to a somebody. Great story of family bonds. Johanna was a pistol for her time and I loved hearing her story. I suggest when done reading to research more about the characters as not all is true but I thought it was a great balance to such a heavy story. Narrator did a great job!
