Historia
The 59 provocative slogans presented here - each with a commentary by the Tibetan meditation master Chgyam Trungpa - have been used by Tibetan Buddhists for eight centuries to help meditation students remember and focus on important principles and practices of mind training. They emphasize meeting the ordinary situations of life with intelligence and compassion under all circumstances. Slogans include, "Don't be swayed by external circumstances," "Be grateful to everyone," and "Always maintain only a joyful mind."

Hard to engage and a bit stereotyped
Revisado: 07-24-24
I found this book too generalizing. There’s a whole section talking about how we should think of our caring mothers and their sacrifice so we can always go back to that when things are bad now. Well, not everyone had/has caring mothers. They should’ve used a more diverse language, like “caretaker” because the author presses on this so strongly, I can see this hurting people who didn’t have loving mothers. Almost triggering. That doesn’t help at all.
It also uses terms that aren’t obvious, and a bit confusing. There’s a bit of judgmental language as well. And the narrator was hard to engage with. I found myself distracted by just about anything around me and not paying attention to him. I found him a bit harsh and impersonal. He’d be good for a different kind of book for sure, but not this kind.
Couldn’t even get to half way :/

Good overall but lacks empathy sometimes
Revisado: 04-04-24
The content has some valuable information and the bottom line makes sense. But I felt like a lot of the content was way too generalized and absolute (white and black only.) I felt uncomfortable whenever it puts so much pressure on victims of abuse or trauma. Hearing things like “you choose your pain” can’t be generalized or simplified like that. It felt like it was written for people who have the luxury of choosing. Yes, we can definitely try to make negatives into positives a lot of the time. But not everyone not everything is that simple.
I also felt uncomfortable hearing typical negatives being used with female examples, like jealousy, insecurity, bad parenting etc. Very typical and borderline sexist.
I like that there are some tools at the end to practice and try to better yourself. But I didn’t feel like I truly learned actual techniques to deal with the agreements.

This might be better read than as an audiobook. The sound is terrible. Very amateur. I’ve recorded better audio with my phone. Such a shame, because the content is amazing.

Great content. Terrible performance
Revisado: 02-02-24
The content is amazing and life changing. But the readers can be better. Especially the woman performing the hypnotized females. The very first person she acted was the worst. It was like listening to a female Gollum. I kept expecting a “preeeecious” at the end of every sentence. Very over dramatized and creepy. Why? It completely distracts from the content and makes me want to stop the audiobook. I will have avoid other titles with this reader. But the content is very interesting and has a lot to offer. Maybe read it instead.

Magnificent!
Revisado: 07-24-15
Where does The Forgotten Promise rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
So high! I want to listen to it again. It does start with a lot of back story, but is really needed and appreciated if you want to understand the marvelous ending, which is the basic, and most important message of the book.
What other book might you compare The Forgotten Promise to and why?
I don't know yet. I feel anything by Graham Hancock and David Wilcock would be in the same topic, only Sherry is talking about her own experiences while David and Graham are more of researcher's knowledge.
Which scene was your favorite?
I wouldn't call it a scene. Is not a movie. But I'd say, the ending
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Who we really are
Any additional comments?

I wanted to love it but
Revisado: 12-11-14
If you could sum up The Power of Now in three words, what would they be?
I can't sum up in 3 words.
Great information, but narration is somewhat annoying. The voice of the narrator, in this case the author, is very passive. To the point that it becomes a bit boring. It's hard to understand at points. Very deep, slow voice. And sometimes the other people that are with him, seems to be arguing with his points. I had a hard time sometimes understanding certain points being made, because of the mild arguing.
What did you like best about this story?
Is about consciousness
Would you be willing to try another one of Eckhart Tolle’s performances?
As long as he doesn't narrate it
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Several, but again, it was a bit overshadowed by distraction, trying to fight the way I felt about narration
Any additional comments?
Is great material, but the way it was read was not successful in my opinion

HORRIBLE Narration... Not terrible book
Revisado: 07-30-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I don't know to be honest. From the beginning, the author admits most of the book wasn't really his work, but mostly his research based on many other books and websites.
With that said, is nice to have someone do the work for you, so I was still curious, and as always, I kept an open mind and gave it a chance.
But this narrator is just HORRIBLE!
IS LIKE LISTENING TO TOSH.0 READING ABOUT CONSCIOUSNESS!
He reads too fast at time, and chuckles to himself!
He changes voices when there's a quote, but not only is he changing it to an extreme but almost sounds like he makes fun of the voice!
He would be better reading a funny fiction book, or a teen comedy book.
Is just way distracting, and ruins the material entirely. Is ok to be casual, but this type of book shouldn't have the feel of a comedian.
RUINED. Can't get through it. Too upsetting.
If you’ve listened to books by Harry W. Carpenter before, how does this one compare?
Haven't listened to any other, but if they have the same narrator, I won't be listening to them.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Matt Stone?
ANYONE serious about the subject.
Do you think The Genie Within: Your Subconscious Mind - How It Works and How to Use It needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Can't say. Can't finish it. Will return.
Any additional comments?
Hope this narrator reads the reviews and learns to read according to the subject of the books. Is really frustrating and a waste of time and money for everyone.

Are you a Lightworker? It is the Lightworkers' mission to lend their light energy to a planet heavy with fear and negativity. But Lightworkers aren't all well known spiritual gurus. They are musicians and artists, shopkeepers, accountants, stay-at-home moms, and people you pass on the street. They share their gifts by speaking out for those who have no voice and they create glorious works of art that beautify our planet or write music that elevates our spirits.

It was okay
Revisado: 01-16-14
What made the experience of listening to Lightworker the most enjoyable?
The writing is good. The author seems to know what she's talking about and comes off very natural. I did think there was more (example) stories than actual information. I suppose that's not terrible, as many of us learn better with examples, but I was left a bit hungry for more information.
It wasn't so much about "Understand Your Sacred Role as Healer, Guide, and Being of Light" but more like "Examples of Psychic encounters for me and my family." To be fair, she does explain many things at first, but again, most of the book was about examples and stories from her life.
I did not love the narrator. Is the second time I'm not happy with her reading. No offense to the narrator at all. I just didn't think her narrating matches the book. It got old quick. It was too bad, because I was interested in listening to the end.
What did you like best about this story?
The way the author communicates to her audience
Did Sheila Book do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
There wasn't many "characters" but she wasn't my favorite narrator ever.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I don't think you can make a movie for this book. Unless it was a documentary...I guess the title of the book would work.
Any additional comments?
I don't know exactly what makes the narration annoying. Again, is too bad, because I will listen to one more book by Sahvanna, and I saw it has the same narrator... :/Hope it has less examples and less exaggerated narration

Is it happening to you? You wake up at night, look at the clock, and notice that it is 11:11 p.m. This happens again the next night, and the next. You think it is a coincidence, but what if you were to discover that it was happening to others - possibly millions of others--all over the world? And that it meant something...something important? The reports of people noticing strange and repeated associations with the number 11 are on the rise, prompting theories connecting this phenomenon with the coming Mayan calendar end date of 12/21/2012.

What a disappointment
Revisado: 12-30-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If the book would've been more than personal experiences, but more of a study and conclusion. Not just a bunch of stories when X person saw 11:11
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something SERIOUS and actually studied.
What didn’t you like about Sheila Book’s performance?
I didn't like ANYTHING. She was way too cheery for this *kind* of book, and she reads as if she wants to be over with it. Way too fast and too (fake) happy.
What character would you cut from 11:11 the Time Prompt Phenomenon?
Ugh. It was all bad

Great story. Terrible narrator. Ruined it
Revisado: 12-15-13
Would you consider the audio edition of I Am Alice to be better than the print version?
It would've been but no. The narrator is just terrible. I couldn't finish "Slither" thanks to her. She is NOT a good narrator for these books. Way over dramatic and boring. Changed the character entirely. I am extremely disappointed because Alice is such an important character, why ruin her? Please NEVER use Angela for these books again. PLEASE listen/read the ratings. We are the ones who buy. We are the ones who love or hate the audiobooks. Don't ruin it for us anymore. It was such a great book series.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It's Alice, because she's just a great character. But the narrator is the worse thing that could've happened to Alice. RUINED
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Angela Goethals?
Christopher Evan Welch. He did great with all the other books. You know a narrator is bad if people prefer a MAN reading as a girl instead of a WOMAN. He was great. PLEASE don't have her ever again in this series.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes. I wanted to cry when I found out Angela was reading this book. I never finished Slither and even returned it thanks to her. So audible is losing money thanks to her terrible narration.
Any additional comments?
PLEASE DONT LET HER NARRATE ANY MORE OF THESE BOOKS!!!!!!!!
