Historia
When the once-mighty city of Rome was sacked by barbarians in 410 and lay in ruins, it signaled the end of an era—and the beginning of a thousand years of profound transformation. In a gripping narrative bursting with big names—from St Augustine and Attila the Hun to the Prophet Muhammad and Eleanor of Aquitaine—Dan Jones charges through the history of the Middle Ages. Powers and Thrones takes listeners on a journey through an emerging Europe, the great capitals of late Antiquity, as well as the influential cities of the Islamic West.

Well executed survey of lost peoples

This is an excellent overview of lost peoples. Easily followed if, like me, you’re doing other tasks while listening. The narrator does a first rate job. Recommended

A brilliant story by Andrew Klavan, beautifully written and well performed here. I’m not even much of a mystery reader but I recommend this one.

Historia
It was a moment unique in human history: the face-to-face meeting between two men from civilizations a world apart. In 1519, Hernán Cortés arrived on the shores of Mexico, determined not only to expand the Spanish empire but to convert the natives to Catholicism and carry off a fortune in gold. That he saw nothing paradoxical in his intentions is one of the most remarkable and tragic aspects of this unforgettable story.

Well done. Recommended
Revisado: 09-21-21
I recently learned that my 17th great grandfather was one of Cortes’ blacksmiths and I wanted to learn more. To my mind the criticisms of the accent are overdone: sure it’s not the best rendering but is not obnoxious and distinguishes quotes from the text. Overall I think the narrator did a fine job. Great book. Recommended

It was an age of fascinating leaders and difficult choices, of grand ideas eloquently expressed and of epic conflicts bitterly fought. Now comes a brilliant portrait of the American Revolution, one that is compelling in its prose, fascinating in its details, and provocative in its fresh interpretations.

Narrator needs to bone up
Revisado: 07-24-19
Excellent book and I recommend it. The narrator has a very peasant voice to listen to,
But I would seriously recommend boning up on some of the pronunciation because it can be a bit jarring. There are quite a number of mispronunciations, the worst being pronouncing “impugn” to rhyme with “plunge.” Overall though, very informative and captivating telling of the material

Historia
In this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, historian Barbara Tuchman brings to life the people and events that led up to World War I. This was the last gasp of the Gilded Age, of Kings and Kaisers and Czars, of pointed or plumed hats, colored uniforms, and all the pomp and romance that went along with war. How quickly it all changed...and how horrible it became.

Narrators Accents Makes this Unlistenable
Revisado: 02-08-18
I like it when narrators use a little bit of accents to dramatize a book. This classic book was ruined by the over the top accents used by the narrator. I had to stop listening to it
