Historia
First published in English under the title The Accident, Elie Wiesel's third novel in his trilogy of Holocaust literature has now adopted Wiesel's original title: Day. In the opening scene, a Holocaust survivor and successful journalist steps off a curb in New York City directly into the pathway of an oncoming cab. As he struggles between life and death, the journalist recalls the effects of the historical tragedy of the Holocaust on himself and his family.

A powerful story.
Revisado: 01-16-18
Day was my least favorite part of the Night Trilogy, but it is still worth a read. The story is of a man who struggles to love again and find happiness after such terrible suffering. The message was powerful, but it wasn't as gripping as Dawn and certainly wasn't as powerful as Night. George Guidall is wonderful as usual.

Historia
The Bell Jar chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful but slowly going under - maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

One of the great novels from the 20th century.
Revisado: 01-10-18
What about Maggie Gyllenhaal’s performance did you like?
Maggie Gyllenhaal set the tone of the novel so well. It really helped me understand Esther's feelings without the author directly explaining them.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I've suffered from depression before, so I was able to relate to certain scenes from the novel. It really does a good job of providing the reader with an insight into the mind of someone suffering from depression.
Any additional comments?
Please, if you have a chance, give The Bell Jar a try. I consider it one of the great novels of the 20th century and it shouldn't be overlooked.

An interesting, short novel.
Revisado: 01-10-18
An interesting, short read/listen, from the perspective of a soon to be executioner. The inner struggle that took place within Elijah kept you on the edge throughout. I love Elie Wiesel's writing and George Guidall does a superb job narrating.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Good performance, poor story.
Revisado: 12-24-17
I found the plot of Artemis to be interesting enough, however the narrator/protagonist of the story was quite annoying to me. I could not relate to her at all and in fact I think she is one of the most selfish and greediest characters I've encountered in a long time. Very annoying and childish dialogue. Rosario Dawson does a good performance.

Packed with "compelling inside stories" (Chicago Tribune), Teammate is the inspiring memoir from "Grandpa Rossy", the veteran catcher who became the heart and soul of the 2016 Chicago Cubs championship team and was named manager in 2019. In 2016 the Cubs snapped a 108-year curse, winning the World Series in a history-making, seven-game series against the Cleveland Indians. Of the many storylines to Chicago's fairytale season, one stood out: The late-career renaissance of David Ross, the 39-year-old catcher who had played back-up for 13 of his 15 pro seasons.

A fun, light read.
Revisado: 12-14-17
As a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, it was such a thrill watching them win the World Series in 2016. In fact it was exciting watching the team play all year round. David Ross provides some of the insider details during his two years with the Chicago Cubs and the rest of his career that led him there. I felt that the narrative was a bit jumbled and could've been put together a little better, but overall it was a very enjoyable listen.

This Lovecraft classic is a must-have for every fan of classic terror. When a geologist leads an expedition to the Antarctic plateau, his aim is to find rock and plant specimens from deep within the continent. The barren landscape offers no evidence of any life form - until they stumble upon the ruins of a lost civilization. Strange fossils of creatures unknown to man lead the team deeper, where they find carved stones dating back millions of years. But it is their discovery of the terrifying city of the Old Ones that leads them to an encounter with an untold menace.

At the Mountains of Madness is a prime example of why H.P. Lovecraft is one the masters at horror-fiction. A quick listen and suspenseful throughout.

Good performance, predictable plot.
Revisado: 11-08-17
Charles Dickens can sometimes be a dry read, but a good narration certainly helps. The story was a little predictable, however since this is such a short book it's still a worthwhile listen.
