Great story but narration is a little different
Revisado: 01-05-21
Another great addition to the series that was incredibly well written. However, the narration with the characters voices was a little off. Some of the characters sounded slightly different from the previous books, but one of the minor characters (Ragna) was completely different. That being said, it doesnt detract the listening experience at all, but after just relistening to the series it was noticable. I should also say that in this book, Luke Daniel's created unique voices for dozens of different characters so I can imagine the difficulty that presented him.

Great narration and but pace of the book was off
Revisado: 10-09-20
Overall I really liked the concept for this book and it had a great narration with a good range for the different characters. However, the pace of the plot was off. The first several hours of the book moved too slowly. I felt like the time spent was necessary in order to give background to the world the MC lives in, but it could have been done more organically. The middle of the book was great, perfectly paced and gave good depth to the main character and his team. But then the end of the book felt a little rushed leaving me a little confused as to everything that was happening.
Despite this, I'd still say it was a well written book and has great potential for the rest of the series.

Very unexpected adventure
Revisado: 07-03-20
In a world where a supernova causes an EMP, casting humanity back into the stone ages, the main characters have enough to worry about. On top of that everyone's gone through some sort of psychological change for the worse. Depression, paranoia, and psychotic rage tear across the nation making daily life a constant battle to stay alive.
The main characters in this book go through constant struggles. Everytime they think they've got a handle on things, something turns up and completely turns their world upside down.
The narration for this book was very well done, and the story was well written.

Overall Fantastic!
Revisado: 06-13-20
To start this might have been the best narrations that I've heard. Great range for the Male and female characters but it was just so well done for all of the epic moments in the story. The voices that were delivered felt so real and full of emotion. It felt like I was really there.
Aside from the narration, the story was incredibly well written. It reminded me of the movie "Momento" where the MC has no memory of what's going on and what led him to this moment.
Overall, this was a very interesting book with a great ending that still left itself open to more in the books in the series.

Historia
No one understands what it's like when your mother is famous for her beauty and you are, at best, average. Actually I'm wrong. She wasn't famous just for her beauty, but that's how people tell the story, how people have always told the story. That was even her name for a while. No one remembered her real name. She was just the sleeping princess or Sleeping Beauty. I'm only a footnote in my own life, destined to always be Sleeping Beauty's daughter. My name's Princess Azia Rose of Draconis, and here is my story....

Looking forward to the next book
Revisado: 06-07-20
Overall I'd say this was a great listen. The plot was interesting and grabbed my attention, and the performance by the narrator was very well done. Melody Muzljakovich had a great range with both the male and female characters and gave each a unique personality and cadence. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the series, however, I felt like this book was a little too short. In the last few days of the book, Azia's relationships that develop with her love interests, and her growth with learning magic felt a little rushed and could have used just a couple more pages of details to make it flow more naturally.
Finally, this story left off with one of the most exciting cliffhangers I've read in a long time. Its made me really excited to see what happens next.

Historia
Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: A giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time. So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes", "levels", and "quests", Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change. After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

Interesting and new
Revisado: 06-03-20
I love stories that have non-human main characters. It makes for a very refreshing story, and using a Dragon just makes it all the more interesting. It was funny to see the culture behind all dragons motives and their belief that they are immortal and all powerful. One of my favorite lines was "Death is just a birth defect".
Overall, I felt the narration was fantastic. Great range for both males, females, and other monsters/creatures. There was a clear distinction between them all and each felt unique. However, I do need to note that there were several noticeable issues where the voice for Vainqueur was mixed up. Sometimes his lines were spoken with Vic's voice, and sometimes it was a completely different "Dragon" voice. Not sure what happened with the editing, but that being said, it wasn't enough to affect the quality of the narration, or the experience of the book.

Revisado: 05-28-20
This was another great addition to series. The story and narration continued to exceed expectations and of the first three books in the series, this one was by far my favorite. Each of the apprentices growth in their skills and abilities led to very exciting matches in the Coliseum.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book to see how the story continues.

Great addition to the series
Revisado: 05-23-20
After listening to the first book in this series I was really looking forward to continuing the series, and the 2nd book didn't disappoint. Once again Shami Stovall has captured the magical and thrill of this world through the adventures of being an Arcanist.
The narration was once again fantastic and did a great job at capturing the individual personalities of each character.
This series has now become one of my favorite fantasy books to listen to and I'll definitely be listening to it again in the future.
