flowery crap dressed up as a failed feminist romance
Revisado: 12-04-23
So, so, so very BAD couldn't finish. The plot ran in circles with no main points of interest, climaxes or any real tension, any character development was done in long info dumps that seemingly come out of no were and dont resolve or set up any plot... it's just chaos peppered with cliche victorian sex tropes that aren't even entertaining just odd not plot twists just randomness to "spice things up" but it's just bad. I can't even find a positive other than narrator has some serious talent as her reading was the only thing that kept me hoping it would get better. Which really made me hate the chopoy discongrunt story all the more; because there was no pay off. nothing was learned or gained except the knowllege that I will never read or listen to this autor again willingly.

Take one bored princess. Make her the seventh daughter in a very proper royal family. Have her run away. Add one powerful, fascinating, dangerous dragon. Princess Cimerone has never met anyone (or anything) like the dragon Kazul. But then, she's never met a witch, a jinn, a death-dealing talking bird or a stone prince either. Princess Cimerone ran away to find some excitement. She's found plenty.

A childhood favorite
Revisado: 03-02-21
the enchanted forrest series by Patricia C Wrede is a long time favorite, the recording seems to have a really tinny quality that makes it a little hard to listen to if you have any sensory issues which is the case with my kids so they have to put up with me reading out loud and I get to enjoy the audio book myself. it might be a good idea to have this remastered and cleaned up for those on the spectrum with sensory processing issues to enjoy

Why!?!?!?!
Revisado: 02-06-20
Why oh why would Brian change Gunner's voice so drastically from book one!?!?! completely threw me off. I mean how do you reconsile a main supporting character having a Slavic tinged deep almost monotone calm English european voice in one book then go full on bouncy poshboy British for the second which is set less than a year appart. You can not change the vocal performance so drastically and not have it throw your listener off. I am so annoyed I love Katie's books but Brian's inconsistent character performance here really annoyed me. which is really sad because I loved his parts in The Importance of Being Alice. I know in this it's actually spelled out how Gunner's voice should have a soft British accent but what Brian did here was not soft or subtle it was a baseball bat to the head level of jarring.

Historia
At last, the definitive audiobook about perhaps the best cabin crew dramedy ever filmed: View from the Top starring Gwyneth Paltrow. In Ayoade on Top, Richard Ayoade, perhaps one of the most 'insubstantial' people of our age, takes us on a journey from Peckham to Paris by way of Nevada and other places we don't care about. It's a journey deep within, in a way that's respectful and non-invasive; a journey for which we will all pay a heavy price, even if you've waited for the smaller paperback edition. Ayoade argues for the canonisation of this brutal masterpiece.

Only Richard Ayoade could pull this off...
Revisado: 11-06-19
I usually wouldn’t be compelled to buy a 4+ hour dissertation on Veiw from the Top and it’s personal cinematic and cultural/social significance...but Richard Ayoade...so I actually pre ordered this...and was more than pleasantly surprised. I remember the movie and it’s strange semi ensemble cast(lots of cameos and big names in bit parts) but never read so much into it now. Richard does a wonderful job of making you question both his taste level and your own while doing a great job at making his case and convincing you by the end that this movie truly was under-rated and you must watch it, while still taking the absolute piss out of the whole thing, (especially Gwyneth and Goop). mMaking you thankful that Richard is not political because the man could get some truly ridiculous things to pass if he put his mind to it. Brilliant, odd and thoroughly entertaining

Boring Narator Amazing Stories and info
Revisado: 05-02-18
I really loved the information between stories and have been a Greek myth fan forever. However, the narator was practically dead pan. there was no passion. Almost no dynamics to the way she told the stories. It really effected my enjoyment. Greek Mythology deserves a passionate dynamic reading. Someone to get you excited and invested in the characters. Not a voice like an over worked public school teacher whose lost their will and passion to teach, because that's what this felt like.

Wonderful! The best way for me to fall asleep after a bad day. There is nothing quite so sublime as Stephen Fry's voice. Then to have it narrating one of my favorite stories of all time? There is no question I'll love it. Stephen's Zaphoid Beeblebrox is the best IMO

loved getting to hear a full cast reading!
Revisado: 01-12-18
I loved that they had a full cast of voice actors for this. it really made it come alive as I listened I do kind of wish the narrator were a little less lack luster at some points but I guess it did make the voice actors shine a little more brightly. So, I still give it 5🌟
