Juvenile
Revisado: 12-10-19
Sorry.... I rarely write reviews, and I'm pretty tolerant. But this book (audio format) was very poor. Character development was nonexistent, and worse, the characters were so bad they were virtually caricatures of poor SF. The dialogue was stilted, and at points, the author's word choice was bizarre or just wrong. It was as if a young person were slightly misusing words that were close but not quite right. And, finally, the narration just compounded the problem with the stilted dialogue. As I said, this was almost like listening to a parody.

Historia
In a cave high in the Alps, a renegade anthropologist discovers a frozen Neanderthal couple with a Homo sapiens baby. Meanwhile, in southern Russia, the U.N. investigation of a mysterious mass grave is cut short. One of the investigators, molecular biologist Kaye Lang, returns home to the U.S. to learn that her theory on human retroviruses has been verified with the discovery of SHEVA, a virus that has slept in our DNA for millions of years and is now waking up.

Interesting concept but brutally slow
Revisado: 07-13-11
Slow and repetitive.... The concept had potential but I nearly abandoned the book multiple times--something I never do. The author seems to be trying to build character, allow introspection, etc., but the writing is just too weak to pull off the strategy.

Move on
Revisado: 08-18-05
Weak and derivative. I was disappointed by plot and the cardboard characters, and I'm usually pretty easy to please when I know I'm reading "airplane fodder."
