Historia
Victor and Eli started out as college roommates - brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong.

I hope you like time-hopping!
Revisado: 08-14-19
The story was good and, once I got used to the rhythms of jumping back and forth through time, was fun to read. I do wonder if the choice to write the story in a combination of flashbacks and present-day “countdown” was necessary or the MOST effective choice. But it worked. Just be warned, if you hate that kind of thing this might not be the story for you.

Great reader. I will be looking for more by him. The story, though well written, was made intolerable to me by all of the homosexual activities. Not my cup of tea.

Historia
In Everything Trump Touches Dies, political campaign strategist and commentator Rick Wilson brings his darkly funny humor and biting analysis to the absurdity of American politics in the age of Trump. Wilson mercilessly exposes the damage Trump has done to the country, to the Republican Party he served for decades, and to the conservative movement that has abandoned its principles for the worst president in American history. No left-winger, Wilson is a lifelong conservative who delivers his withering critique of Trump from the right.

Too much sarcastic prognosticating and snark
Revisado: 09-20-18
I appreciate hearing from Never-Trumpers but Wilson definitely doesn’t have much respect for people who don’t share his views and the sections of imagined phone conversations and “this is our future” were overdone. One would have been enough. So read it if you want to see a conservative tearing down other conservatives but it’s not Woodward’s book by any means.

Far different from the movie
Revisado: 06-26-18
It got a little bogged-down at the end (organization of the Mobile Infantry wasn’t particularly interesting to me) but overall an enjoyable story.
If you’re reading this in hopes of more silly fun like the movie you should give it a pass. The two are barely related.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

A bit drawn out in parts but worth it
Revisado: 10-06-17
I found myself drifting a bit, wondering how there could still be so much left of the book but the last 4 hours really picked up and made any other draggy parts worth it.
Honestly, once we got past the rapey bits it was a lot easier to handle and more engaging. Wondering, with the ending, if there will be something of a sequel.

Interesting use of epistolary style
Revisado: 09-15-17
Some writers try the epistolary style and end up with someone's crappy diary. Others try it and end up with a good story. This is a good story. The format works well to keep tension and cut down on a lot of "stage setting". I highly recommend it, especially given the talented full cast of performers.

Not quite what I was looking for
Revisado: 08-08-17
The fault is entirely mine. I wanted a new story featuring Loki. What I got was a retelling of Loki's stories from Loki's perspective. If that's what you're looking for, you will likely enjoy this book. It's well-written and well-performed. It just wasn't for me.

Classic sci-fi (but not exactly fun)
Revisado: 04-01-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who enjoy a generational view of post-apocalypse stories might like this. But if you like more of a rollicking tale this isn't really going to be your thing.
Would you ever listen to anything by Walter M. Miller again?
Sure. The performance wasn't the issue. I just didn't care much for the story.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Sure
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. It had been touted as one of the great sci-fi stories that contributed to the genre as a whole. It might have done this but I didn't find it particularly gripping or well-written by modern standards.
