Not good
Revisado: 02-19-23
I kept telling myself that if the main character was smart, there would not be a story, but she was SO stupid. I almost couldn’t stand it.
I still have not given up on this author yet. The Family Game was much better. This book was terrible.

This is one of the best books I have listened to in a very long time. She is not an author I am familiar with, but I thought I’d give it a try. I didn’t have high hopes. I’ve listened to a lot of mediocre books lately, but this book was great.
I usually listen on the way to and from work, but this book had me listening while making dinner and before bed… whenever I had an opportunity.
I only have two sort of negative things to say. The story starts out a bit slow. The beginning of the book is important, but it wasn’t until the “games” that things really started to get interesting.
My second minor criticism is not text related. The book is read by the author. I would have liked it read by someone else. She is from London. I like the British accent, but she had some difficulty with an American accent and the majority of the other characters were American… and male. It would have been nice if they had a woman that can do the different accents more convincingly and maybe even a male performer for the male parts.
Over all, an excellent listen.
Give it a try!

Give it a chance
Revisado: 12-08-22
At first I was very turned off by the reader’s long… pauses… between words… that… didn’t seem to be… natural places… to… pause, but if you give it a chance it will put you right to sleep! I still don’t know how Beauty and the Beast ends.
This podcast works like magic. Good night.

Shannon Moss is part of a clandestine division within the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. In western Pennsylvania, 1997, she is assigned to solve the murder of a Navy SEAL's family - and to locate his vanished teenage daughter. Though she can't share the information with conventional law enforcement, Moss discovers that the missing SEAL was an astronaut aboard the spaceship USS Libra - a ship assumed lost to the currents of Deep Time. Moss knows firsthand the mental trauma of time travel and believes the SEAL's experience with the future has triggered this violence.

Not a casual listen
Revisado: 12-06-22
This was an interesting book. I think I need to listen to it again. It’s a complex story, that you can’t let your mind wander from. it helps if you have a little bit of knowledge of timetime travel theory,

Historia
Caroline Overington's stunning fiction debut is a multi-voiced novel centred around a child's death and its terrible repercussions. In 1982 Victorian police were called to a home on a housing estate an hour west of Melbourne. There, they found a five-year-old boy lying still and silent on the carpet. There were no obvious signs of trauma, but the child, Jacob, died the next day. The story made the headlines, and hundreds attended the funeral. Few people were surprised when the boy's mother and her boyfriend went to prison for the crime.

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 11-21-22
Unlike most books of this type, I found the ending to be very satisfying. The concept of this book was interesting. I liked hearing the story from the point of view of all the people involved such as the social workers, foster parents, law informant, etc. My only criticism is that the different points of view didn’t really bring together the full picture. I would have liked each person to bring a specific piece of the puzzle and then in the end the final person could bring the whole story together… like he did. It felt like all the chapters before the final few didn’t really need to be there. Maybe I need to listen again more carefully. Maybe the hints were subtle and I didn’t pick up on them.
Overall, I’d say it was an entertaining listen. I liked it enough to recommend giving it a try. Oh and the performers/readers were very good.

Not too bad
Revisado: 10-08-22
First… the performer reads this to fast and her voice gets annoying. It is better if you set the speed to .9x
As for the story. It is basically The Hunger Games and Divergent mushed together. unlike the Hunger Games, the characters in The Testing are less interesting and not as complex.
However, the story kept me interested and I have enjoyed speculating about who the mysterious grey haired man is and what “The Testing” is really all about.
I’m not sure this book series will be one of my all time favorites, but it has been an enjoyable enough way to pass the time.

Great Reader!
Revisado: 06-10-22
What stands out to me with this book was the reader. Loved her accent. You don't hear a true New York (City) accent very often.
The story was twisty and the end was satisfying.

Historia
I've had to move out of the city and into the house I inherited here, in the idyllic fishing village of Porthcove, but only for as long as it takes to sell it. You see, I need the money, so I've started seeing some of the locals, you know, as patients, but I tell you, there's something really disturbing about charming neighbors sharing chilling secrets. And it isn't just that. It's the other things. Strange, inexplicable things. It started with odd smells, creepy sounds, and then the intruders...oh God, the intruders.

Took a long time to get where it was going...
Revisado: 06-10-22
This book was fine. Not a favorite, but not the worst book I've "read". It was predictable, but interesting enough for me to finish it.
I'd recommend skipping this one and starting with "Haunted," the second book. Crazy I know, but the second book was written so that a person could read it without having read this one... so do that. Haunted is more of a performance style. I haven't finished it yet, but so far it is a more interesting story, with sound effects and a female reader for the female parts.

When an eight-foot-tall man made of stone appears in the middle of a busy city center one July afternoon, two-bit (and antisocial) reporter Andy Pointer assumes it's just a publicity stunt. Indeed, so does everyone else...until the Stone Man begins to walk, heading silently through the wall of the nearest building, flattening it, and killing several people inside as a result.

Not bad at all!
Revisado: 12-04-21
I really enjoyed this book. Often with these types of stories, I find the endings a bit disappointing but the ending of this book was actually really good. I love that the aliens in this book were not the stereotypical little green men. There is so much to talk about but I don’t want to give anything way…
I plan to “read” all of this author’s book.

Creepy and clever!
Revisado: 11-12-21
This book was a pleasant surprise!
I don’t remember what made me choose this book. I didn’t have super high hopes because I had just listened to several duds and I kind of assumed this would be too… but it was much better than I expected! It was creepy and clever. I’m looking forward to listening to other books by this author. I guess it pays to kiss a few frogs if it means I find a new author I enjoy!
