full of the ups and downs not only of his own life, but the lives of his bandmates (where appropriate, this didin't strike me as a tell-all so much as a confessional) and the music business in general, this story was engaging from start to finish.

some minor editing blips along the way, but hey, welcome to the world of recording arts and sciences.

nicely done!

Funny, but not quite funny enough

This book is often funny, and sometimes hilarious. However, it didn't stand up to a listen of any more than about 10 minutes at a time, due to a combination of the sheer weirdness of some of the essays and Hodgman's overly deadpan delivery.

5 stars for the story...

... but 2 stars for the narration, which pretty much kills the story.
The story line was compelling to me, from the interest point of a daughter who comes to find out that her father's military career was as quietly intense as hers was celebrated.
At least, that's what I got out of part 1. Sorry to say, that I couldn't bear to listen to the narration any further than that. I found the narrator's attempts at characterization too distracting to continue listening further.
I will most likely buy the hard copy of the book, to continue the story.

The Civil War: A Narrative, Volume II, Fredericksburg to Meridian Audiolibro Por Shelby Foote arte de portada

An exhaustive look at our most defining moment

Revisado: 04-23-05

Mr. Foote delivers the second of three volumes here, and spares no
detail. I've studied the Civil War off an on since I was a child, and
have discovered through this series that I know nothing.
Aside from being minutely informative, this series is also entertaining,
as any 60-hour audiobook should be. There is plenty of colorful turn
of phrase here, and a lot of the wit of Lincoln, and others, is entirely
new to me.
