Wow.
Revisado: 05-28-24
What an amazing listen. Sally writes so beautifully that you feel her anxiety, her pain her joy and sorrow. This book had me feeling memories of my own childhood. The way she explained her disassociating when going through awful moments reminded me of my own trauma as a child. I’d could write a thousand more words on this book and how it was one of the best biographies I’ve ever read. So I’ll just leave it at that. The best biography I’ve ever read.
Thank you Sally.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Heart Wrenching
Revisado: 05-01-23
Thank you Jennette for sharing your story. I cried a few time and laughed as well. When you listen or read this book you’ll get enraged and wonder why? Why doesn’t she stand up for herself? But it’s difficult to do that when you’re not taught how or given the tools to do so. She was manipulated and indoctrinated by the one person who is supposed to protect her.
Her mother lived her life through her very talented daughter. Listening to this was very much like listening to someone getting out is a cult. But the cult was her mother.
Jennette deserved better.

Time to Tax this “religion”
Revisado: 02-22-23
Michelle’s story will have you shaking your head at the harmful and dangerous antics of the church. I am glad this story ends well and Michelle’s courage will hopefully help others who are in abusive and coercive controlling relationships or groups.
