Historia
As the world enters a new century, three teenagers forge a future for themselves on the wild Texas grasslands: Gideon Fry, torn between going his way and following his father's footsteps; Johnny McCloud, whose restless spirit finds its solace traversing an open range; and Molly Taylor, the woman they both love. Rugged, bold and volatile, the three of them come of age in this tender and intimate novel of the heart.

Well that was some story
Revisado: 05-27-24
I’ve read/listened to most of Larry’s books. At first I was a little disappointed in this one. The deeper I got in the book the better I liked it. I’ll say this the title isn’t a clue at all as to the story line. Very unlikely plot line especially for the time frame of the book. Bottom line about this book is I liked it. I liked it very much. In my mind this book is as good as Elmer Kelton’s “ The man who rode Midnight”. Both books are deep love stories. Well done.

Historia
David M. Potter's Pulitzer Prize-winning The Impending Crisis is the definitive history of antebellum America. Potter's sweeping epic masterfully charts the chaotic forces that climaxed with the outbreak of the Civil War: westward expansion, the divisive issue of slavery, the Dred Scott decision, John Brown's uprising, the ascension of Abraham Lincoln, and the drama of Southern secession.

Very interesting
Revisado: 05-16-24
I’m certainly not a PhD of history but I do enjoy not just the what of history buy the why. History in school is taught to much on the what and not the why. Everyone is positive the civil war was fought only to abolish slavery in the U.S. after listening to this book it became clear the slavery issue was just the vehicle for control. This book brings to light how a inept president and control hungry few are a recipe for disaster. It’s amazing how history repeats itself.

Out standing
Revisado: 03-10-24
I had the great pleasure of listening to Mr. Box speak at a recent book signing on the day of the release of Three inch teeth. He spoke of how he came to write this book. I had started listening to it on my way to the library and was very surprised when he read an excerpt for the book. I was an avid fan before I heard him speak. I’ve listened to all the Joe Picket books and this one maybe the best. Mr. Box really wrinkles the sheets in this book. There were several times I said out loud to Mr. Box have you lost your mind. Read this book. Listen to this book then read and listen to it again it’s that good. The next book in this series will most likely be a real barn burner.

He sure uses a lot of words
Revisado: 02-10-24
The story line is pretty good. David Chandler could read the phone book and make it enjoyable to me. As I say how much I like Chandler I found the authors wordiness very distracting. His description of the most mundane items that have nothing to do with the story make a good story line almost unreadable or unlistenable in my case. There is no doubt if I had read this book I would have only started it, not finished it. As it was I started and stopped several times.

Historia
John Hart creates a literary thriller that is as suspenseful as it is poignant, a riveting murder mystery layered beneath the southern drawl of a humble North Carolina lawyer. When Work Pickens finds his father murdered, the investigation pushes a repressed family history to the surface and he sees his own carefully constructed facade begin to crack.

I’m not so sure
Revisado: 01-22-24
This is the first book by John Hart that I have listened to. I will admit the story turned out to a very good one and I could listen to Mr Chandler read the phone book. I found Mr. Hart’s writing boring. Let me elaborate. I found his demonstration of his vast vocabulary over the top and distracting. I wondered if he was getting paid by the word. Not a bad story at all but if we’re you I would get the abridged version. It took Mr Hart way to long to get to the point and I really didn’t understand why he had the the title figure lie about everything. Yes I know the title of the book and I thought Hart wrote to the title and not the story. I’ll have to think about listening to another Hart book. Hart sure isn’t a Sanford, Krueger or Box.

Confusing
Revisado: 01-18-24
I am having a hard time writing a review. I bought this book because I really like David Chandler as a narrator. The plot was straight forward but the story was, let’s say scattered. Way to much about the primary character being an alcoholic. The abridged version maybe better. I’ll have a hard time buying another book by the author.

Davenport and Flowers together
Revisado: 11-15-23
I am a great fan of Sanford. I’ve listened to all the Prey books, the Flowers and Leddy’s. As with all the series I have listed to I tend to associate the books with the narrator’s almost as much as with the author. Richard Ferron is the voice of John Sandford. I can’t help believing that Mr. Ferron narration of this book would have helped with its weak spots. I had the feeling listening to this title that the title was wrong. It certainly isn’t a regular Prey series. At times I felt this title was more a Flowers series than a Davenport series. Not bad just not as good as other books in the Prey series.

Not up to par
Revisado: 06-27-23
I don’t know why I really didn’t care for this book like I do Sandford’s other books. To me it just didn’t flow right. Maybe it was Petkoff’s narration or the general story line but something is off. This book isn’t one of Sandford’s better works.

Really
Revisado: 01-08-23
I’m tired of books focusing on addictions. I kept waiting for this book to get better, it didn’t. The longer it went it became so convoluted it was hard to follow. Yes good murder mystery’s are convoluted but some how those convolutions have a subtle linear thread. I was hoping for a good read. Find something else this book isn’t it.

Historia
April 1940. By terms of the Soviet Nazi Nonaggression pact, the two dictatorships divided the helpless nation of Poland. Now, the Russians are rounding up enemies of the state in their occupation zone, but one essential target slips away. Dr. Sebastian Kapsky had spent years working with Walter Riedel and Werner von Braun in the early days of rocket science, but as a man with a conscience he refused to continue when he saw the perversion of their work by the Nazis. That makes him the most knowledgeable person about German superweapons outside of Germany.

Certainly not up to W.E.B’s standards. I would think the abridged version would be better. The narrator has a very good voice but he just didn’t work for me. I’ll have to think real hard to listen to any more Griffin books written by Mr. Kirsanow.
