Great book but missing some parts
Revisado: 06-23-20
My daughter is reading this book for school, and she follows along in the paper book as she listens to the audio. This audio recording is missing at least one chunk of the book that we have noticed so far.

Historia
For as long as she can remember, Jane Stuart and her mother have lived with her controlling grandmother in a dreary mansion in Toronto. Jane always believed her father was dead, so she was shocked to receive an invitation to stay with him for the summer on Prince Edward Island. But from their very first meeting, Jane fell in love with her charming father and his whimsical cottage. During her stay with him, she even found herself daring to dream that there could be such a house back in Toronto.

Not Worth an Audible Credit
Revisado: 07-06-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
It was not LMM's best work by any means (by that I mean, not on par with the Anne books or Blue Castle), but perhaps I would have liked it better with a different narrator.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
She did not carry the nuance of the story. She was easy enough to listen to, but she did not lend any depth to the characters or credence to the plot line. Also, the performance itself was awful. There were many, many times when phrases were repeated. Once, the narrator mispronounced a word. It was corrected, but we heard both the incorrect pronunciation and then the correct. Bad, bad job on the part of the director and editor!
Any additional comments?
Buy the book and read it. :)

Once again, the story starts AFTER the climax
Revisado: 05-16-15
Any additional comments?
Like Dee Henderson's other recent books, this book is completely a resolution. There is no build-up, and no climax. The climax took place before the book began, and all we see is the ending. There is a hint of romance, but nothing concrete in that department, either. The story was interesting for the first 2/3 of the book until I realized that there was going to be no suspense, no surprise, and no crisis. The rest was tough to chew through. By the end, I was feeling very disappointed. Ms. Henderson can write better than this! She proved it with her earlier works. I don't know why she seems to have lost that ability since she came back from her long absence.

Historia
Commander Mark Bishop is deliberately low-key: "I'm in the Navy." But commanding the ballistic missile submarine USS Nevada, keeping her crew trained and alert during 90-day submerged patrols, and being prepared to launch weapons on valid presidential orders, carries a burden of command like few other jobs in the military. Mark wants someone to come home to after sea patrols. The woman he has in mind is young, with a lovely smile, and very smart. She's a civilian, yet she understands the U.S. Navy culture.

Please go back to your old style, Dee!!
Revisado: 07-18-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This book was much the style of her last book, Unspoken. It was also a big disappointment for me. I used to LOVE all of Dee's books. I have listened to the O'Malley series multiple times. But in this one, the story line fell flat. There was almost no suspense, and what little suspense there was turned out to be nothing. The male characters were completely over-the-top and not believable at all. Everything went way too smoothly and predictably. I was so excited to listen to this book, but I felt I had to write a review to express my extreme frustration and disappointment with it!
Would you ever listen to anything by Dee Henderson again?
Yes, I haven't completely lost faith in her yet! I hope she can come up with something more on par with her older books!
What about Adam Verner’s performance did you like?
I enjoy this narrator. He does a good job of lending a voice to the characters.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes, there were interesting ideas about the military and sonar and solar flares. I do enjoy the military theme, also.

This story continues on where the Baxter saga left off. It is very well written and an enjoyable "listen." The narrators were easy to listen to, and it was nice to hear more than one narrator as the story progressed.
