Don't bother - Spoler Alert
Revisado: 02-04-23
I had to finish this book out of principle, which I now regret since I wouldn't be able to return it. A gripping story from the beginning that starts to get annoying a third of the way through. Suddenly I could not wait for it to finish. Long and drawn out with an anti-climactic ending. I figured out the plot somewhere around the middle, still listened hoping something unexpected would happen. Boring, I really wanted to like it.

Eric O’Neill was only 26 when he was tapped for the case of a lifetime: a one-on-one undercover investigation of the FBI’s top target, a man suspected of spying for the Russians for nearly two decades, giving up nuclear secrets, compromising intelligence, and betraying US assets. With zero training in face-to-face investigation, O’Neill found himself in a windowless, high-security office in the newly formed Information Assurance Section, tasked officially with helping the FBI secure its outdated computer system against hackers and spies - and unofficially with collecting evidence against his new boss.

I really wanted to love it
Revisado: 11-12-22
I enjoy time travel romance stories, with my favorite series being the Celtic Brooch. The storyline was good but I kept hoping Eve had more gumption and more spunk. It is understandable that women had no rights in 1885, but all the scenes where she could not form a sentence, she could not defend herself, or simply say NO, just drove me crazy. The story wraps us nicely and all questions get answered. I can't quite explain it, but I did not fall in love with the characters, it did not leave me feeling like I wanted to know more, and that I would miss them when the book ended. I will not be listening to the rest of the series.
I did not like the narrator, and that could very well be why I felt the protagonist was so blah, the narrator did not give her a soul, a personality you fall in love with or identify with.
It was a nice try but it fell short for me.

Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Not your usual Baldacci
Revisado: 08-07-22
I have read every Baldacci book and have enjoyed them so much that I didn't want the story to end. This one was just ok. A very different style, almost as if someone else wrote it. I got through it but didn't love it, in fact I didn't actually like it at all. For me the main character was not believable. Won't spoil the story for anyone who wants to read this. My advice, skip this one!

Historia
For Rose Marshall, death has long since become the only life she really knows. She's been sweet 16 for more than 60 years, hitchhiking her way along the highways and byways of America, sometimes seen as an avenging angel, sometimes seen as a killer in her own right, but always Rose, the phantom prom date, the girl in the green silk gown. The man who killed her is still out there thanks to a crossroads bargain that won't let him die, and he's looking for the one who got away. When Bobby Cross comes back into the picture, there's going to be hell to pay - possibly literally.

The narration nearly made me stop listening!
Revisado: 02-08-19
This is a continuation of Rose Marshall's story, and I suspect there might be a book 3. The same narrator as the first book, but in this book she changed the inflection of her voice to sound breathy and utterly annoying! Worst of all, she adopts a sing-song tone that is terribly irritating, ending every sentence with song like tone. I was too much into the story to pick up the paperback, but if you have not purchased the audio book, please just get the printed version. I could not wait to get to the end. I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO THE PREVIEW!!!

Disappointed
Revisado: 12-05-18
I love Baldacci but this book was flat. The storyline had a decent buildup then the ending was so anticlimactic I felt it could not have been written by one of my favorite authors. Just terribly disappointing. The main character was just blah. Definitely skip this one.

Revisado: 10-04-17
Baldacci outdid himself in this story. Meant for young readers but excellent for any audience, I listened to the whole thing in 3 days. If only I didn't have to sleep or work! I hope it does not take over a year like it did between 2 and 3. I am so anxious to find out what happens. Vega Jane is my hero.

Main character is too whinny
Revisado: 09-25-17
Would you try another book from David Baldacci and/or Nicola Barber?
I love David Baldacci and have read or listened to just about all of his books. Hence why I decided to give this a try, plus the reviews were positive. The story is good, but it dragged out quite a bit, making me wonder again and again why I should keep listening. I hated the narrator. Maybe this is unfair since she was just narrating a story she didn't write. The main character kept stating the obvious again and again, and the constant whining is what mostly drove me bonkers. So in retrospect I guess I didn't connect with the main character. Out of principal, and because I have to finish everything I start, I got through the entire book. Of course, now I need to know what happens next, so I will listen to the other two books. I hope I can without stabbing my ears, and I hope our heroin cuts down on the whining.
Would you be willing to try another book from David Baldacci? Why or why not?
Of course! Baldacci is a terrific author and his books have always been enjoyable and intense. Perhaps with the exception of this story line, not sure I can be truly converted to a fan of Vega Jane. I like his other books and characters so much more.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The delivery of some of the scenes was somewhat annoying because of the whinny and wimpy mode it was used to narrate. The character is young, but she doesn't have to sound so pathetic all the time. It didn't inspire confidence in the character. This is just me, from the reviews I read, folks loved this series. All I could do was roll my eyes.
Did The Finisher inspire you to do anything?
No

Any additional comments?
To me this story was sad and unsettling. I could have done without this turn of events. Dragos losing his memory and forgetting Pia and their life together totally broke my heart! Following the series makes you become close to the characters and love them. I could not believe that something so devastating and terrible would happen to Pia and Dragos. I can't wait to find out if Dragos ever gets all his memories back. I hope he does for his and Pia's sake. Loved this book none the less.
