Domestic Violence.
Revisado: 04-22-23
Poignant story about domestic violence and it’s effects on women. It also gives some insight about why some women do not leave as soon as we think think they should.

Historia
Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they’ve failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore. But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up.

Historia
Between 1937 and 1945, approximately 55 million people perished in the series of interrelated conflicts known as the Second World War. No continent was left untouched, no ocean unaffected. The war led to the eclipse of Europe and the emergence of the United States and the Soviet Union as global superpowers; ushered in the atomic age; produced, in the Holocaust, the most horrific crime ever committed in the history of Western civilization, and led to the end of Europe's colonial empires around the world.

Excellent review of WWII
Revisado: 01-01-15
What made the experience of listening to World War II: A Military and Social History the most enjoyable?
I did not know much about the details of WWII before listening to these lectures. I now feel that I have a great understanding of all of the theaters of the war and how they were related.
What was one of the most memorable moments of World War II: A Military and Social History?
He had a good balance of the big picture and then would present personal details of how the war affected different individuals.
What about Professor Thomas Childers’s performance did you like?
He was an excellent lecturer. The content, the pace and his voice made it very enjoyable.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Usually I cannot just sit down and listen to a book on tape but with this one I was drawn in, it was like a novel unfolding and I wanted to see how everything fit together. I spent many hours at a time listening.
Any additional comments?
I have enjoyed many of the Great Courses, but this was by far my favorite.

Historia
Dead Man's Chest, written as a sequel to Treasure Island, begins with Long John Silver's escape from the merchantman ship Hispaniola at Puerta Plata and culminates with the American Revolution more than a decade later. It describes in rich detail the unholy alliance between this softhearted cutthroat, his teenage nephew, David Noble, and Captain John Paul Jones. Together, they work to retrieve a king's ransom of Spanish gold and jewels from a dead man's chest.

Amazing Narrator!
Revisado: 11-08-12
What did you like best about this story?
I don't know how historically accurate it is because I'm rusty on that era of history, but I loved hearing about the different Caesars and life in ancient Rome.
What about Neville Jason’s performance did you like?
His reading was so smooth and correct for each part, it felt like you were there in the story. It never seemed like he was reading it, but that he was acting it.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, if it weren't so long. I hated to stop listening.
Any additional comments?
I listened to it a second time shortly after finishing it the first time.

Historia
Ulysses is regarded by many as the single most important novel of the 20th century. It tells the story of one day in Dublin, June 16th 1904, largely through the eyes of Stephen Dedalus (Joyce's alter ego from Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) and Leopold Bloom, an advertising salesman. Both begin a normal day, and both set off on a journey around the streets of Dublin, which eventually brings them into contact with one another.

Incredible narration of a difficult book.

Would you listen to Ulysses again? Why?
Maybe. I think I would get a book with footnotes to help with understanding it.
Any additional comments?
Again, the narration was possibly my favorite of all the books I have listened to. Great emotion, pacing, clarity.
