I really adore this audio book. Not only is the story gripping and terrifying at times, but it really explores so much within this universe. Makes me wonder, how long would you live before you get bored? I can't wait to hear the next one.
Narrator is fantastic and so talented. I always knew who was talking.

I am loving this series!
Revisado: 05-29-24
If you liked the first book, you are going to love the second! The plot is so interesting, and it dives even deeper into what this world and the strange way of dying/not dying is doing to it. I really don't want to give any of the plot away, as it is so wonderful to go into this not knowing much. Such an intriguing idea and just well done.
Zachary Quinto slays this narration, you also know what character is speaking. He does everything, emotion, characters, you really feel like you know these characters (even though some of them you wouldn't want to invite over for dinner.)
Well worth a listen. A nice bite size story that will haunt you.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Revisado: 03-04-24
Wow! I am just blown away by this audiobook! Where in the world did the idea for this come from? It is creepy, startling. and somehow you can entire this world and accept it and start to ponder it in the world around you! Be warned, it will haunt you!
Zachary Quinto slays this audio book! Doing a plethora of voices with just the right speed, emotion, and pure talent!
I would go into the story, but I really don't want to give anything away. I will say this: It is a true crime drama but also with a twist of science fiction. Can't wait for the next one! A+

Powerful and Gripping Listen! It will haunt you!
Revisado: 12-02-23
I have become such a fan of Ben H Winters! I have read a lot of his work now and I must say it like watching The Twilight Zone. Sometimes how the story ends it leaves you to imagine what is coming next. And I adore this style of writing!
I really enjoyed the slow burn of the beginning of this story and the introduction to the world you are now entering. The places you will travel you will find yourself curious about but scared to see. Our lead of this story is a product of the world he was born into and it is interesting to see how he deals with the circumstances and jobs he has to take on. You will find yourself caring deeply about other characters and constantly surprised by the twists and turns that come in this story. It was hard for me to leave my car and go to work, I just wanted to keep listening!
The narrator is AMAZING! His voices for narration and the characters are out of this world. He even comes up with voices for himself as he takes on roles and those are spot on! I can not praise his performance enough, because that is what this was, a performance. I felt like I was listening to a radio drama and yet there was only one narrator, no special effects, but it was that gripping.
This was an incredible audiobook!

Gripping and Haunting!
Revisado: 11-02-23
Where to start. Since I started listening to the audiobook, I swear it feels like the news is talking more about bed bugs!
Having lived in NYC for a while, I really related to this audiobook right from the start. From the amazing place the family finds to rent, to the small details of just walking through the neighborhood. You really feel like you are there with them. Which can be an awesome experience and not so much. LOL
I came across this novel after discovering Ben H Winters when a friend recommended The Last Policeman Series to me. After that series, I moved on to listening to Self Help, Strannger and Q&A. All I highly recommend. He is so talented and has a wonderful talent with words that is rare to find. His writings have a way of staying with you long after you have finished his work.
This novel was so gripping and (at times) almost made me start itching. It is a slow journey into unsettling territory, all the while really wanting the lead character to figure out what is going on inside their new place. I found the husband, Alex and their daughter so charming at times. I don't want to give away too much, but it had me looking forward to dealing with L.A. Traffic just so I could keep listening.
The narration was wonderful, and she slayed it. Changing her voice just enough so you always knew who was talking and what was narration. She really brought all the emotions to this, sometimes, very emotional story.
This would be a great audiobook on a road trip or stuck in traffic. I also imagine that if you listen to it while cleaning, you may actually clean your place better than you have in a while. Five stars all around!

Such a fun listen!
Revisado: 10-20-23
This collection of three stories taking place during lockdown was so great! The first one was funny in so many ways and reminded me of so many things faced during lockdown. I loved the ending! The second I thoroughly enjoyed. I stop and think of it now every time I see a beer bottle not rinsed out in my house, lol. The third was a twist on Rear Window and I really enjoyed the lead character I found her so relatable. Wanting to take time in lockdown to focus on herself.
There is a chilling quality to this as to how well Ben H Winters captured that time in our life. I think everyone will relate to more than a few things in each story. In listening to the credits, I saw he wrote this during lockdown, and it makes me wonder what I would have thought if I had listened while in that time and not being in the present where we are trying to find a way out of that time. They really give you a lot to think about and to remember.
The narrators were great and did a great job in each story. From the mob and those voices to a creepy brother, to a girl who likes to dip into her fantasies. They all slayed it!
This is a great collection and makes me look forward to traffic in LA instead of dreading it. Well done!

This was incredible! I am quickly becoming a gigantic Ben H Winters fan; he is so talented. I listened to Q&A, Self Help and The Last Policeman Series and I am just so blown away by his way with words!
The narration was beyond! To the point, it was hard for me to believe it was just one person narrating, he was so talented. His pacing was wonderful, and he had all the right emotions for every character!
Five Stars, I just wish it could have gone on and on. As I could see so many ways this story could have gone. Such a clever idea!

He’s got an agent who barely remembers his name, his ex-girlfriend has hooked up with a Silicon Valley dude, and the milk in his fridge is so far past its sell-by date it’s historic. The only way Jack can scrape together a bare existence is by delivering food to exactly the types of successful people he wishes he could be. Then, one day, a very strange audiobook shows up on his phone.

Revisado: 09-11-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. / Radio drama! It is almost like a Black Mirror episode; Twilight Zone meets Chritopher Moore Style. Witty and slightly disturbing.
Wil Wheaton slays this narration and then you have the added bonus, Ron Perlman. I related to so much in this and lost myself so many times in this story.
I am a huge fan of Ben H Winters ever since reading his Last Policeman trilogy. I am convinced he should be a household name. He writes with such a relatable voice and you almost find yourself relating with the lead character as he makes all these wrong choices. I know I will be listening to this again with friends on a road trip, for the laughs and spiral into what it becomes. Such a great listen. A+

Revisado: 03-12-23
I am so happy I realized here was another audiobook in this series. The last I listened to this series it was January 2019, coming back to the series was like seeing old friends~
This audiobook is so good! I really enjoy the way Chelsea Hale writes and how little things can be taken different ways. You feel all the emotions in this and relate with both leads so deeply. A lovely way to escape and feel like you are journeying with them to all these places or playing golf or working. LOL Well done!
Stacey Glemboski slays it! She has so much emotion in her voice and does a lovely job of slightly changing her voice for different characters, you always know who is talking. She really is a perfect fit for this series, which I highly recommend this entire series, leaves you all warm! great narration and talent! Perfect pacing!

Chills, Chills and more Chills!
Revisado: 02-05-23
As it is with MR James, a lot of the chill factors come from the dialogue and the scenery. This one does not disappoint! It made me curious about the uncle and odd way to leave a will or be buried, but it was just the right bite or a story to escape in for about an hour. There is a reason that MR James is considered the Grandfather of Ghost Stories and in the country.
David Suchet it brilliant. His accents and changes of voice for characters and pacing is just wonderful. He is always talented and this extremely well done.
