Good, but ended too abruptly
Revisado: 03-15-20
I enjoyed this sequel but I didn't like how it just stopped. I went back to be sure I didn't miss anything. I suppose it ended with another sequel in mind.

I loved the combination of sci-fi and cats. The tech seemed very plausible to me. I really enjoyed the back story and could imagine this being translated to a movie or series. I will be looking for more of her stories.

Cinderella story?
Revisado: 01-14-20
Like many before me I liked Sarah's story. Her childhood trauma with her mother rang true but the whiplash speed that she went from ostricized, self-doubting, victim to strong, Independent woman seemed forced. It would be more satisfying if her prince charming was one of her childhood friends that had pulled himself up by his bootstraps instead of poor little royal/tycoon.

This was a wonderful telling of the history of modern monarchy as represented by Elizabeth II. Good and bad, it showed how her reign has been molded by events rather than being the molder of events like her predessors. Not as sensational as The Crown, it makes the royal family seem very human.

So when Briddey Flannigan's fiancé proposes that he and Briddey undergo the procedure, she is delighted! Only, the results aren't quite as expected. I liked the story idea but hated the characters. The fact that the strongest person is a nine year old is very telling. Connie Willis dropped the ball on this one .

The dented heart of this reviewer.
Revisado: 10-04-18
I love Joey so much because I know a few Joey's. My heart hurt hearing the scene where he got the missmatched pair of sneakers. I felt like crying along with him his defeat was so palpable.
Sadly, Joey's situation is all too common. As a parent and foster parent, I applaud Jack Gantos for capturing so poingiontly the issues faced by so many children.

Historia
Cuervo is a pampered Nicaraguan moneyman, funding a guerrilla war from his cushy Miami penthouse. Sixto is his hulking, pistol-packing attendant, whose job satisfaction is on the wane. When an aging mobster enters their lives with a promise to help the rebel cause - with a planeload of chickens originally intended for voodoo sacrifice - a tense situation turns combustible. From the wickedly funny mind of Carl Hiaasen comes "The Edible Exile", a raucous story of sleazeball nihilists, lovable thugs, and jungle-weary freedom fighters who collide in a battle of wills, ego, and the almighty dollar.

This is a novella.
Revisado: 08-01-18
This is not a full length novel. It is generous calling it a novella. The story was good but had I known it was so short, I would not have used a credit on it. I listened to in in the course of one day's commute. I do not recall anything in the description stating as such.

Just one thing...
Revisado: 12-27-17
I really enjoyed this story and liked the narrator's voice. just one thing threw it off for me. I hated that when there was a phone conversation it sounded like the caller was in a tin can. it really detracted from the reading instead of giving it a sense of realism. if my phone had such poor audio I would get rid of it.

The starship Earthling, filled with thousands of hibernating colonists en route to a new world at Tau Ceti, is stranded beyond the solar system when the ship's three organic mental cores—disembodied human brains that control the vessel's functions—go insane. The emergency skeleton crew sees only one chance for survival: build an artificial consciousness in the Earthling's primary computer that can guide them to their destination—and hope it doesn't destroy the human race.

Alright story but performance was irritating.
Revisado: 05-27-17
The premis was good. A ship manned by clones is sent out into space supposedly to colonize a new planet. However, the true purpose is to create a sentient computer using the hibernating colonists as part of the conciousness. It is an interesting concept and the arguments and theories seemed very realistic. My mind wandered during said arguments and there was little action in between to bring me back to the story.
The performer reminded me of Kelsey Grammer doing Sideshow Bob. it became tedious after a while. pop
