Historia
What if every time you had a self-critical thought, you heard it in a man’s voice? The truth is not far off. Living in a patriarchy, women absorb a lifetime of messages that say your worth is defined by your looks, your accomplishments, and how well you take care of everyone around you. In fact, these messages are so pervasive that, even knowing they exist, they still manage to program themselves into our brains. The result is that women end up feeling anxious, guilty, and vaguely ashamed of themselves no matter how much they do for others or achieve for themselves.

Love it! Simple explanation of how to think on purpose and therefore your emotions. If you are thinking about this book, I recommend listening to Kara's podcast first.

Historia
We’ve been looking at perfectionism all wrong. As psychotherapist and former on-site therapist at Google Katherine Morgan Schafler argues in The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control, you don’t have to stop being a perfectionist to be healthy. For women who are sick of being given the generic advice to “find balance,” a new approach has arrived.

It's not for everyone
Revisado: 08-25-21
If you are remotely familiar with the basic concepts of the FIRE movement, this book provides no additional insight. The advice and examples are rethorical and lacks personalization. In an effort to motivate the reader, the tone of the author turns condescending at times. If you are analytical, self-motivated, and new to FIRE, this book could be helpful. The author seems to forget that attitude and habits about money is emotional and cultural. If you want something more related to mindset, search elsewhere. If you want tactical advice, search elsewhere. Frankly, the book was just meh.

Historia
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites listeners into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her - from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work to her time spent at the world's most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it - in her own words and on her own terms.

An amazing story!
Revisado: 03-28-20
I'm so grateful Michelle Obama wrote this book. She is above all a woman who cares about women and children, and has live her life in a way that opens doors for others. There are so many life lessons embedded in her story. Do yourself a favor and read it with an open heart.

Historia
In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics: a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the "endless clash of armies" we see in Congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of "our improbable experiment in democracy".

Decent
Revisado: 09-10-12
In this book, Obama describes his world view - which I think has somewhat changed since he became president and learned about DC gridlock. If you are hoping for the same type of book as his first book - Dreams from My Father - this is not it. But we shouldn't compare. Both are good books, individually.

Historia
In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a Black African father and a White American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a Black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father - a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man - has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey - first to a small town in Kansas, and then to Kenya....

Great Narration! Great Story.
Revisado: 06-18-12
If you could sum up Dreams from My Father in three words, what would they be?
I think many will be able to identify with Obama's struggle to determine his identity and his struggles/questions while growing up. His story is the story of many Americans, sons and daughters of immigrants. His narration was superb.
