Historia
1989, Lamesa, Texas. A small west Texas town driven by oil and cotton—and a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business. So it goes for Tolly Driver, a good kid with more potential than application, seventeen, and about to be cursed to kill for revenge. Here Stephen Graham Jones explores the Texas he grew up in, and shared sense of unfairness of being on the outside through the slasher horror Jones loves, but from the perspective of the killer, Tolly, writing his own autobiography. Find yourself rooting for a killer in this summer teen movie of a novel gone full blood-curdling tragic.

Fellow West Texan here! Thanks man!!
Revisado: 11-26-24
I love all of Stephen Graham Jones's work. It's always unique. I won't give a full rundown of the story. Previous readers have done a thorough job of that. I just want to say that it's interesting to read a book describing life in West Texas friom a fellow West Texan. We don't realize all of our idiosyncratic ways that make us different until you read them printed like this. I will always be a hard-core Stephen King fan, but this book hits closer to home, is more relatable, so it now has a special place in my heart. 💜

Underwhelmed
Revisado: 12-21-23
There were a few gems in this story, but for the most part, it was a chore to listen to. A lot of whining and tantrums when she didn't get things her way.

I loved this whole series!
Revisado: 10-27-22
Lots of action, magical adventures, humor, and some unexpected turns! Also, a lot of cussing. Like a lot, a lot, but that doesn't bother me, I have a potty mouth too. There are also several parts that really hit me in the feels and made me cry, like ugly cry, but I still loved the series and highly recommend it if this sounds like your cup of tea! ;)

Historia
Stephen Smith is the boy who did not exist. Born out of wedlock in the early 1960s, Steve's parents - both devout Catholics - had felt so 'shamed' by their son's illegitimate birth that they hid him away from the world by locking him in the cellar...for 13 years. Apart from a few admissions to hospital as a result of his 'imprisonment', Steve remained in the coal cellar of the family home where he was deprived of daylight, his childhood, school and human contact until he'd reached his teenage years.

Heavy material
Revisado: 08-17-22
I'll admit, I started this book because it was suggested and free. I also didn't realize until about a 1/3 or even 1/2 way through that it was based on true events. I'm glad that I read it though. Very heavy material, it's heartbreaking to know what one human is capable and willing to do to another, but I'm thankful that Mr. Stephen Smith survived his ordeal and shared his story.

A bit unbelievable, but a good story.
These guys must really suck if a 16 year old is their "best". She's very naive and self-centered, but once she grows up a bit... she definitely has potential.

I love Cate Tiernan's books!
And it's only because I've already read some of her work that I knew to stick with this one. The main character is so cringy I could not stand her... I thought about stopping the book, but I realized she started out like that for a reason, I stuck with it.... and now I love the main character! She's flawed, messy, imperfect, but very relatable.

love this series!
Revisado: 04-11-22
I love this series and each of the characters. My only complaint... I wish the narrators would have collaborated on the accents of each character before reading. It was very distracting and a bit confusing, when you already have a large number of characters to keep track of for their accents to change from one chapter to the next.
