Historia
Here is the best-selling and controversial history of the British Isles, including Ireland, from the author of Europe: A History. Emphasizing long-standing European connections and positing a possible break-up of the United Kingdom, this agenda-setting work is destined to become a classic.

disappointed by content and writing
Revisado: 05-26-14
Would you try another book from Norman Davies and/or Andrew Sachs?
no
What was most disappointing about Norman Davies’s story?
superficial, didn't breathe any life into it.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
too off-hand, i was looking for a meatier, more solid book
What character would you cut from The Isles?
not a fiction book
Any additional comments?
weak writing, indifferent narrator. Can I get a refund? I can't get past the 2nd chapter.

Amelia Peabody inherited two things from her father: a considerable fortune and an unbendable will. The first allowed her to indulge in her life's passion. Without the second, the mummy's curse would have made corpses of them all.

Barbara Rosenblat's voice makes the characters
Revisado: 11-25-13
Where does Crocodile on the Sandbank rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of the most enjoyable Audible books I've listened to so far. I was especially impressed by the narrator, who made the characters come alive. The happy pairing of author and narrator were such a perfect match that I don't think I could switch to a different narrator. An easy read - smart, funny, and engaging. Seldom a dull moment.

charming
Revisado: 09-26-09
I wasn't sure at first that I would like this book, but it was entertaining, funny, clever in its approach, and not overly romantic because, sadly, it wouldn't have read true. (I'm giving it almost 4 stars, but not quite.)

grim reality
Revisado: 09-25-09
This not the usual action-packed Perez-Reverte and the subject is hard to take at times, but it is a clever way to set up a dialog about war and the baser aspects of humanity and has enough suspense to carry you along. This is definitely the right voice for this book.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

riveting
Revisado: 09-25-09
This is a beautifully narrated reading of an astounding book.I generally do not think I am interested in accounts of explorers but this is an exceptional book and I find the voice of the reader to be a perfect match to the writing. Mesmerizing. I strongly recommend it.
