Historia
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

Bits and Pieces of stories revolving around her family. I completely enjoyed it. Having her read it just enriches her stories for she giggles and adds snark throughout.

Just Awful
Revisado: 05-10-23
The author used to be a "go-to" of mine - no more. Her last two books have let me down. In this book the author just throws one non realistic scenario after another at the wall trying to make something stick. None of these characters would have done or acted in real life how she portrays them. There is really no cohesive story here.
The author has been told for years that she is not a good narrator. She's always been horrible and her voice has not improved with age. She does not care, for some reason, that her audio readers struggle. I wonder if the author pays the narrator and this is a financial decision. Now that my hearing is not would it used to be (I admit my limits), it's a bad situation.

World War II continues, and Ada and her brother, Jamie, are living with their loving legal guardian, Susan, in a borrowed cottage on the estate of the formidable Lady Thorton - along with Lady Thorton herself and her daughter. Life in the crowded cottage is tense enough, and then, quite suddenly, Ruth, a Jewish girl from Germany, moves in. A German? The occupants of the house are horrified. But other impacts of the war become far more frightening. As death creeps closer to their door, life and morality during wartime grow more complex.

Man!!! I LOVE This Series!!!!
Revisado: 10-05-17
Though these stories are written for a younger audience – this adult loves every minute. I hope Bradley keeps this series going long after the war is over.
The author does a superb job giving just enough back story to the previous series readers and first in the series. This book easily stand on its own - though you WILL be looking for the other one too. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a fast past uncomplicated read, with just the right amount of characters, that at times will keep you on the edge of your seat. Also, if you’re looking for a shared read that has no uncomfortable embarrassing sections.

Superheroes have always been Leia Birch Briggs' weakness. One tequila-soaked night at a comics convention, the usually level-headed graphic novelist is swept off her barstool by a handsome and anonymous Batman. It turns out the caped crusader has left her with more than just a nice, fuzzy memory. She's having a baby boy - an unexpected but not unhappy development in the 38-year-old's life.

xactly the book that fans of this author come back time and time to drink up. It’s quaint, quirky, funny and oh so southern - as usual. Joshilyn Jackson fine-tuned product. I count the days till release, then plan extra reading time in my schedule because I know once I start, it’s going to be hard to put down.
I must say though that Almost Sisters took a little longer to get into than normal. The scenario felt pushed and pulled to fit an agenda or story line that the author was trying satisfy. It took a long time till it began to flow naturally. Some of the one liners in this book are remember ably hysterical. This book really showcased Joshilyn Jackson’s sharp wit and killer humor.

Historia
It's a stunning attack, lightning quick and chilling in its execution. A merciless gang of terrorists seizes the Presidio County Courthouse in the midst of the worst blizzard West Texas has seen in a century. Loaded down with enough firepower to outfit an army, the attackers slaughter dozens, take all survivors hostage, and assume complete control. The nation - and the US government - are at their mercy. Or so they think. They don't know that a seasoned Texas Ranger is also inside the courthouse.

Die Hard in Texas
Revisado: 07-11-17
I found this wonderful author by taking a chance on a sale book long ago. I purchased and LOVED the entire Red River Mystery series (I have been hoping for more) and I can tell that I will enjoy this series as well.
The characters this author creates have a different type of depth than those found in the percentage of police/detective stories. The protagonists are not public servants with negative pasts, hard luck stories, beefs with the system, substance abuse problems or marital woes, but rather members of loving families with positive outlooks on life and normal issues. So refreshing. I personally enjoy the active part the kids take in both series. Seems somewhat quirky to have police stories where minors take an active role – but somehow it works in a believable way and adds interest to the story.

Historia
The first storm comes from, of all places, the Minnesota zoo. Two large and very rare Amur tigers have vanished from their cage, and authorities are worried sick that they've been stolen for their body parts. Traditional Chinese medicine prizes those parts for home remedies, and people will do extreme things to get what they need. Some of them are a great deal more extreme than others - as Virgil is about to find out.

The Virgil Flowers series just gets better and better with each book. Sandford has reached the "perfect" point in this series. There is not a series that I enjoy more. I sure hope Sandfor stays around for 9 more.

Like Watching A Train Crash
Revisado: 07-15-16
The woman who stated this work was too chronological couldn't have read this book. The sad part about her telling such a fable - it kept this in my 'to be read' stack much longer than it should have been.
Fascinating book - hands down.
This book will have you thinking for weeks and years to come about the depths that one will go to live up to the expectations of others. If you are not thinking of that you will be wondering that had these two parents taken a different approach to their family secret - they might have given the world something even greater than a President. I am currently contemplating if Joseph Kennedy Sr pushed karma into biting his entire family by his actions. You will be too.

Like Visiting A Good Friend
Revisado: 07-15-16
Still after eight Kate Burkholder’s adventures in this series, I pre-ordering then count the minutes for each of Linda Costello’s latest to go live. I will continue to get so. I enjoy this strong character that is also sweet to those that live in a manner that she has not chosen for herself. The secondary stories and characters are like old friends as well. I was thankful that the author took Kate on the road to another community and adventure, this time - I am not sure how much tragedy Painters Mill can take?

ENORME!!!!
Revisado: 07-15-16
Siracusa by Delia Ephron is different from her other works, which might put some of her fans off kilter. I applaud the author in this endeavor to take a plunge and coming up with a work that is so clever and fresh. I encourage you to not allow yourself to read a book report type review for fear of glimpsing one revelation before it’s time.
Everything I normally dislike in a novel, this novel possessed. Yet showed me how to, not only to like it and embrace it, but love it. Such as - I generally dislike switching different narrators/characters each chapter. In this book, before long, I was begging for a switch for I needed to hear the other side of the story. It starts in the manner where the reader feels like they came into the middle of the story and it takes work to understand the relationships of the characters. Keep with it – it’s so worth the effort. There are just a handful of two of characters throughout so once you got everyone in their place – you know all their little ticks…well, you think you do.
For me the epilogue ending was the cherry on this cheeky sundae. It’s kept me thinking long after the last page was turned.

Well Worth The Wait!!!
Revisado: 05-25-16
If you are a veteran Mary Kay Andrews reader, you should enjoy this book as much as I did. Yes, this book’s cast has more money and unearned opportunity than in her past books. Yes, the preteen in this book doesn’t get reprimanded nearly as much as one would like. But, it gives volumes of what one goes to this author for: A book with just the right amount of characters who have sass and a sense of humor. An involved storyline that will keep your interest yet, if your mind wonders to consider what’s in the freezer for dinner, you won’t have to rewind because you’ve suddenly found yourself lost. The story ends when the book ends and you are left to feeling good.
I generally milk my May Mary Kay Andrews to last a bit, but I planned a home project around my purchase and was done with both in just two days. Looking forward to next year.
