Historia
In 1971 and 1972, a deadly predator stalked the streets of the nation’s capital. His targets were young girls who he kidnapped, raped, and left their remains along busy roadways in plain view. Some of his victims he held captive for days, others only a few minutes. Seven victims ranging from the ages of 10 to 18 died in his hands. Then, as mysteriously as he started, the Freeway Phantom stopped.

Amazed I had not heard of these murders before.
Revisado: 08-14-23
An account of a number of murders that occurred in DC during the 70s. It is a shame that this has not received as much attention as other killers, such as the Zodiac. This story is just as perplexing and justice is desperately need for the families of these kids. The book did was well written and did a great job of passing along facts that the lDC police would prefer everyone forget.

Have you ever wondered how peas, kale, asparagus, beans, squash, and corn have ended up on our plates? Well, Adam Alexander has. In The Seed Detective, Adam shares his own stories of seed hunting, with the origin stories behind many of our everyday food heroes. Taking us on a journey that began when we left the life of the hunter-gatherer to become farmers, he tells tales of globalization, political intrigue, colonization, and serendipity—describing how these vegetables and their travels have become embedded in our food cultures.

A fascinating tracing of the history of many of the vegetables that are enjoyed now and in the past. I only wish they would make a follow-up book about fruit too.

interesting story.
Revisado: 11-02-22
Great mystery, but author gets a little too political with regards to race at the end. I don't want to give away the ending, so I won't say too much., but she goes so far as to say that King Kong plays to a racial stereotype. What? You lost me there, but otherwise it's a good book that does not just research a murder mystery, but is also about misbehavior in academia...

Good book until the ending
Revisado: 03-18-22
Story was a little far fetched but pretty good until the end. The ending was a to be continued kind of thing which left a bad taste in my mouth. I had already purchased the next few books or else I would just walk away from the series. it's like W.K.K decided how could out Patterson Patterson which is the exact opposite of what I had liked about this series. I hope the author returns to his roots in future Cork books or else I'm done.

Historia
When Lissa Yellow Bird was released from prison in 2009, she found her home, the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota, transformed by the Bakken oil boom. In her absence, the landscape had been altered beyond recognition, her tribal government swayed by corporate interests, and her community burdened by a surge in violence and addiction. Three years later, when Lissa learned that a young white oil worker, Kristopher “KC” Clarke, had disappeared from his reservation worksite, she became particularly concerned. No one knew where Clarke had gone.

Much more than just a true crime book.
Revisado: 01-26-22
This is one of the best books I've listened to in a long time. An excellent true crime book, but even better at giving insight into the complex life of a Native Indian woman and her family. On top of it all is the theme of fighting for a better life and redefining your future. A wonderful book that is not just about a missing person and murder but about a woman who had struggled with drugs, did time and then ended up dedicating much of her time to helping others.

Not the best but ok enough
Revisado: 01-11-22
Not the best book. Plot is not the deepest. it's a good one to listen to when you cannot pay close attention because it's predictable enough that you can fill in the blanks if you miss something. The biggest mystery in this book is the title. The book takes place centered around a campground in Kentucky. There are no bungalows and no beaches. I guess there is a burglary, but it's secondary to the story. Chief to the plot are financial fraud and murders, so I guess the title was picked purely due to someone's fascination with alliteration. it's not the deepest book, but has some entertainment value.
