Historia
Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier, the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city, is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

A life changing experience!
Revisado: 07-29-20
Magnificently written and narrated. I will listen to it again. I will recommend it. I am very particular about gratuitous language. Cummins has the ability to tell a page turning story without using unnecessary objectionable language. Honestly my life has been changed by the reality of this incredible piece of work. I am in awe.

Scott Brick is excellent!
Revisado: 07-05-20
I read some poor reviews about Scott Brick. I agree he is an excellent narrator for narrative pieces, but some listeners said he was too dramatic or not appropriate for this type of book. I disagree. I think he was excellent. Michael Moss did his homework and every bit of this book was absolutely informative, inspirational and specific. I enjoyed and appreciated every minute.

Historia
The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

Doctor B is an outrageous nerd. I loved the book
Revisado: 06-22-20
Doctor B knows his stuff. He is not only extremely well informed about the gut but he conveys the information 100% in his book. Hearing him tell his own story cinches the deal. Absolutely everyone should either read or listen to every word if they want optimum health. The Narrator was absolutely excellent and conveyed Dr. B's enthusiasm excellently. Loved it all. I am feeling better and better every day.

Historia
Amazing Grace tells the story of the remarkable life of the British abolitionist William Wilberforce (1759-1833). This accessible biography chronicles Wilberforce's extraordinary role as a human rights activist, cultural reformer, and member of Parliament. At the center of this heroic life was a passionate 20-year fight to abolish the British slave trade, a battle Wilberforce won in 1807, as well as efforts to abolish slavery itself in the British colonies.

Amazing human being
Revisado: 12-06-18
There aren't a lot of people like William Wilberforce. It was a privilege to listen to his story. I hadn't ever heard of him previously and feel that my life has been enhanced by this piece of work. The narrator was a bit tiresome, but then I am really critical of narrators. I really enjoy a pleasing listen along with a good story.

I am a republican and love Romney....but....
Revisado: 12-06-18
I have always been interested in Michelle Obama. So, why not listen to her book. She is open, candid and real, which doesn't surprise me. I expected that and loved it. However she isn't a narrator. I think it was good that she read her own story to us, but her voice got dronie and tiresome sometimes. Good thing the content was excellent. Also...Michelle.."me and my mom"? "me and my girls?"......ME AND WHOEVER...poor poor grammar from a highly educated woman who wants to be an example to young people. tsk tsk tsk.. "Me and....." got really tiresome for me. But good job with the content. I would definitely recommend it and have done so.

This is the true story of how one moment in time, by the thinnest thread of a chance, changed the course of a small boy's life in ways that are beyond description. One day he would dance with some of the greatest ballet companies of the world. One day he would be a friend to a president and first lady, movie stars, and the most influential people in America. I should be an Audible Poster Child
Revisado: 01-03-17
Would you listen to Mao's Last Dancer again? Why?
ABSOLUTELY. I plan on it. I rarely listen to a book twice but this one is a re-listen for sure! I am going to take notes this time.
What other book might you compare Mao's Last Dancer to and why?
The Boys in the Boat. I love factual historic stories. They are both epic
What about Paul English’s performance did you like?
EVERYTHING! He was wonderful. I fell in love with him.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. Only I couldn't take the time. It felt like a dear friend waiting for me when I could get back to it.
Any additional comments?
I love Audible. I am an American living and teaching at a university in Beijing. This story and presentation went right to my heart. I travel a lot and as a result of that and poor internet I have regular questions. It is wonderful to be able to chat with an Audible person. They are always kind, helpful and responsive. If more businesses had such integrity the world would be a better place. Thank you to all of you. I just gave Mao's Last Dancer as a gift to a dear Chinese friend. I plan to give it again and again to others. I am off on another adventure, loaded with more Audible books to keep me company.
