Increasing feeling of dread
Revisado: 10-01-22
As a long-time student of history, I've read of the darkest events, but none have left me feeling this increasing sense of dread as much as these recordings. I was an infant that day and only heard what happened several years later, around the start of middle school in 2011, incidentally on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. It doesn't mean much to my peers, except the fact that it happened. And for a while it didn't to me either. Until I watched a documentary on the terrorist attacks years later and watched some of the footage, heard some of the last phone calls from passengers as they took their final breaths and said goodbye to their loved ones for the last time. This particular set of recordings will be of great value to me, a reminder of our shared loss that day, of the sacrifices of the heroes and and innocent.

Fascinating subject but horrible narration!
Revisado: 07-14-22
I love the history of Babylonian civilization! There’s something uniquely enigmatic about this particular culture that not only brought us writing as a medium but also humanity’s first justice system. Yet the narrator is unnervingly robotic, which completely turns me off! This is one of those instances where it’s better to read the printed version of this book as opposed to the audio.

Movie was awful!
Revisado: 02-05-22
Although the film adaptation of this book was awful, the book itself was wonderful! I have nothing more to add apart from what are the reviewsers have said, except that I would love to see more subtle psychological thriller/horror such as this on audible!

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

It goes without saying that I read the whole series in elementary school, although I did have to wait a few years until the last book came out. So listening to it again, it was like going down memory lane. :)

Filled with unforgettable stories of emperors, generals, and religious patriarchs, as well as fascinating glimpses into the life of the ordinary citizen, Lost to the West reveals how much we owe to the Byzantine Empire that was the equal of any in its achievements, appetites, and enduring legacy. For more than a millennium, Byzantium reigned as the glittering seat of Christian civilization.

Like watching a trainwreck
Revisado: 12-17-21
The final days of the Roman empire, or Byzantium, is a a fascinating yet tragic tableau from which you can’t look away. Full of petty squabbles, foolish leaders, and heroes who tried their best to preserve Byzantine prestige. Sometimes they succeeded, but other times they fell victim to the sweeping tide of outside forces hungry for the same opulence that bejeweled Constantinople.

Historia
Titus Livy's only known surviving work is a monumental history of Rome that was originally written in Latin. It is estimated that Livy's The History of Rome was written between 27 and 9 BC and covers the legends of Aeneas, the fall of Troy, the city's founding in 753 BC, and Livy's account ends with the reign of Emperor Augustus. The History of Rome is a must-have for anyone interested in ancient history and the Roman era. With colorful detail and intriguing insight, Titus brings to life some of the most turbulent times in human history.

The horrible book
- De Amanda en 08-22-18
Navigation is atrocious!
Revisado: 10-22-21
It’s a Pity this is the only complete copy of Livy’s History. As a work of historiography, it’s one of the most comprehensive accounts of early Roman history from antiquity. And as a subject as a whole, Rome is by far my all-time favorite civilization to study, and I’d even go as far as admitting Ira an obsession. These are the only reasons I haven’t rated this recording lower! Narration is poor, navigation is abysmal! Good luck using it as a reference guide

Roughly half the world's population speaks languages derived from a shared linguistic source known as Proto-Indo-European. But who were the early speakers of this ancient mother tongue, and how did they manage to spread it around the globe? The Horse, the Wheel, and Language solves a puzzle that has vexed scholars for two centuries and recovers a magnificent and influential civilization from the past.

Linguistics is fascinating!
Revisado: 10-14-21
Contrary to a couple of the reviews I’ve seen, I don’t mind the academic tone of the book. In fact I prefer it. That being said, the evolution of human language is a fascinating topic which I’ll never tire of learning about.

Soaring ambition. Unwavering integrity. Billie Joe Armstrong isn’t the first punk to negotiate mainstream success, but he might be its most undisguised example. In Welcome to my Panic, Green Day’s iconic front man holds nothing back as he tracks listeners though his deeply personal and artistic journey in raw detail. Matching his emotional storytelling with new, exclusive, recordings of Green Day’s biggest hits, Armstrong chronicles the seminal moments in his life: the trauma and triumphs that have come to define him.

Historia
In this, the first prose history in European civilization, Herodotus describes the growth of the Persian Empire with force, authority, and style. Perhaps most famously, the book tells the heroic tale of the Greeks' resistance to the vast invading force assembled by Xerxes, king of Persia. Here are not only the great battles - Marathon, Thermopylae, and Salamis - but also penetrating human insight and a powerful sense of epic destiny at work.
