Great Intro to DI Carter
Revisado: 09-19-24
Love the narration by Haley Atwell, who says one of my favorite quotes, “Have Courge & Be Kind” as Cinderella’s mother from the live action movie. The story is well developed Joy Ellis is an adept story teller. I hope the books that follow become more intricate like the Jackman & Evans series.

Fantastic
Revisado: 07-17-24
This was an intense listen and engaging. 46 hours is of epic proportions but I devoured every minute of it. Scott Brick was tiresome after awhile though. I prefer authors who differentiate between characters much better especially when there were this many.
The story kept me guessing and it was downright eerie how it echoed current political events and captured our divided culture. I loved the story and how it weaves in a new fictional town in MS.
My favorite part was how the author gave Penn Cage his own personal handicap and described the circumstances. I had an accident had befell Greg Iles since his last book and it only endeared me to Penn even more.

Historia
Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson. Before they were household names, these budding legends called Sue’s Nashville apartment—lovingly dubbed the “Boar’s Nest”—home. Sue’s place was an intimate staging ground where a new breed of singer-songwriters—wounded souls, wayward upstarts—would spur each other on to tap into something bigger, realer.

Absolutely loved learning about Sue Brewer & the beginnings of all these country music icons!! Each performance was fantastic and how come I never knew this about Shel Silverstein? It inspired me to learn more about this incredibly lady full of heart who let people thrive together on her living room floor.

Seasonal Friendships
Revisado: 07-08-24
I felt this story intensely. In 1978 I moved and was pen pals with my best friend but eventually it faded off, as it did for their daughters. Life does move forward.
There is a powerful connection with female friendships. Ties that bind us, even if only a season in our lives. You feel the love, the loss, the longing, the loneliness. Laura Dern did an outstanding job conveying all emotion packed into this short story. It’s bittersweet and my heart aches.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Kate needs a new narrator
Revisado: 02-29-24
Saskia ruined this novel. I had to abandon the audiobook and read it instead. Her Russian accent was so bad and her voice is so monotone and flat. I thought it would be impossible to ruin a Kate Quinn novel but Maarleveld did it!

The worst
Revisado: 02-29-24
The narration was horrible enough but the material was even worse. Is it a legal novel, a police procedural?
Nah, it’s a book that’s here to EXPLAIN everything to us twice over (or more) because none of us has ever seen an episode of Law & Order or CSI.

Historia
Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if a person who is the object of your affliction ceased to exist? But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

Intriguing Storyline
Revisado: 10-24-23
I purchased this book for NPH. Unfortunately he isn’t the narrator for the majority of this book. Also unfortunately Simon Vance, while an excellent narrator, was a poor choice.
I eventually ditched the audiobook for the ebook despite using the credit.
I love the unique concept of this story. I enjoyed the characters (after I kept them all straight) and learning not only about deletions but how each pulled off their thesis.
Rupert Holmes is an incredibly talented wordsmith.

His name was Feliks. He came to London to commit a murder that would change history. A master manipulator, he had many weapons at his command, but against him were ranged the whole of the English police, a brilliant and powerful lord, and the young Winston Churchill himself. These odds would have stopped any man in the world - except the man from St. Petersburg.
