Historia
1796. John Pearce is stuck with a difficult mission, a crew of Quota Men forced to enlist in the Royal Navy, four new midshipmen as well as Samuel Oliphant, companion cum spy, whom he finds a constant irritant. In his favour, he commands HMS Hazard, a speedy warship, a pair of competent officers and, of course, his trusty friends the Pelicans. Their mission is to head for the Mediterranean Fleet and warn Admiral Sir John Jervis of impending danger he will face, fighting a combined French/Spanish fleet.

New narrator
Revisado: 01-12-24
More progress in JP life, but now with new narrator.
New voices are stark change from previous and narrator sounds like reading to children that need to have the externalities hold their attention. Wil finish out the series, but this was unfortunate change.

Historia
What happens when a man of today's overconnected world sets off alone across the Pacific at the age of 71? Christian Williams, a veteran sailor and writer, planned a 6,000-mile voyage as a test of his own seamanship and endurance, and to fulfill a lifelong goal. But he found his focus quickly turning from the surrounding sea to all of us. Is anyone the same person when no one else is there? Do we dare to find out?

Really Enjoyable
Revisado: 02-01-22
I have enjoyed listening. As a sailor and aspiring cruiser, I found plenty of real lessons and guidance sprinkled throughout with the backbone of a good story. There is enough practical explanation that a non-sailor should understand and appreciate this book.

Historia
A fighter, rogue, and ladies man, Alan Lewrie has done the unthinkable and gotten himself hitched--to a woman and a ship! The woman is the lovely Caroline Chiswick. The ship is the gun ketch, Alacrity, bound for the Bahamas and a bloody game of cat and mouse with the pirates who ply the lunatic winds there. But while war comes naturally to the young husband, politics doesn't.

Great combination of naval and land battles

One of the more interesting requirements on the Royal Navy. But always a good time.

Historia
After yellow fever decimated the crew of Alan Lewrie's HMS Proteus, it had seemed like a good idea to abscond with a dozen slaves from a Jamaican plantation to help man his frigate. But two years later, Lewrie is now suspected of the deed. Slave-stealing is a hanging offense, and suddenly his neck is at risk of a fatal stretching.

Love the adventures of captain Alan.
These stories mix life on land and sea quite well.

Historia
It is 1780, and 17-year-old Alan Lewrie is a brash, rebellious young libertine. So much so that his callous father believes a bit of naval discipline will turn the boy around. Fresh aboard the tall-masted Ariadne, Midshipman Lewrie heads for the war-torn Americas, finding - rather unexpectedly - that he is a born sailor, equally at home with the randy pleasures of the port and the raging battles on the high seas. But in a hail of cannonballs comes a bawdy surprise.

More bedroom action than naval
Revisado: 03-17-14
What made the experience of listening to The King's Coat the most enjoyable?
Different take on the subject than other period naval books - definitely more focus on the conquest of women, than on other ships. This could be a really offensive treatment to some.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
a bit dissatisfying - as part of series, there doesn't need to be a resolution, but this element is completely lacking - fortunately I'm going to continue listening
