This was by far the best and most entertaining narration of any book I’ve read. I’m not sure if I enjoyed book or the performance more- it was that good. And I typically struggle with getting into audiobooks, so that’s saying a lot.

First- I love this series. Love it. This is my first time going through it on audible though. Overall- still great. But some words being pronounced inconsistently really throws it off. In the previous book, Aela is pronounce AY-la. In this book, both narrators say it as Ella. Cillian is pronounced differently by both narrators- one says it as KILL-ian and one says SILL-ian (which is awful on its own). Pick one pronunciation and stick with it.

Narrator said “signing” wrong every time

I read this book years ago and enjoyed it, and thought I would check out the audiobook for a reread. For a story with sign language as a fairly important part of the storyline, it was particularly annoying that the narrator said the word sign or signing as sing and singing repeatedly. It pretty much ruined the performance for me as every time I heard it, it jumped out and took me out of the story completely. She’s not telling someone to watch Singing Time videos to learn sign language for crying out loud. 🙄🙄 I’m not sure how this passed review. ::sigh::

Weird narration

The male narrator was somehow both expressive at times and oddly AI sounding at other times. Like the emphasis on words and syllables was off, pronunciation was wrong sometimes, the timing wasn’t like normal dialogue. It was quite weird.

I’ll share my original review of the story below, written when I read this the first time in 2020. I just listened to the audio for the first time, and have to admit I won’t continue with the rest of the series in audio. The narration was frankly a snooze fest. I had to speed it up just to get through it and be done. It really felt like I was back in school and the teacher had us read aloud to the class- no one was excited about it and little effort was put in beyond reciting the written words. After listening to some truly amazing, expressive, theatrical narrators, this was such a disappointment. Every character had the same “voice” so it was very monotonous. I wish it had been done with dual narration, so there were separate narrators for Bobby and Kit’s POV.

**

This is a brilliant start to this series. Bobby is an MMA champion, and along with his brothers own their gym. He has an amazing family, most by blood and some by choice. Their relationship is awesome and I can't wait to continue on and see more of them. Kit is 24 and finds herself the guardian of her 15 year old brother after their father's death.
She is under insane pressure and stress with all the changes, as well as some horrible extended family drama, and mostly drowning under it all while she tamps down her emotions. As a result, she's very hot and cold with Bobby, and frankly a little unlike-able at times at first. But Bobby is committed. And there's nothing hotter than an alpha male falling for his queen and being completely committed even before she gives him the time of day. And when she finally does, they are
I love sports related books, but in particular I love them when the author has real knowledge of the sport. It's very clear that this author knows what she's talking about, which makes this story that much more delicious and believable.
