In the end, it's not what happens to us that matters most - it's what we choose to do with it. We all face suffering - sadness, loss, despair, fear, anxiety, failure. But we also have a choice; to give in and give up in the face of trauma or difficulties or to live every moment as a gift. Celebrated therapist and Holocaust survivor Dr Edith Eger provides a hands-on guide that gently encourages us to change the imprisoning thoughts and destructive behaviours that may be holding us back.

Dr Edith - what do I say I’m too overwhelmed after this journey with her. The finale at the Anne Frank house made me weep too. Just how beautiful life can be despite all odds is what I learnt, reaffirmed rather.
It’s not easy to nurture of hope when one almost died at the Auschwitz and here Dr Edith talks of hope from various dimensions. It’s a book worth a few repeats.

Ashley’s writing touches the heart. Honest, broken open, no filters, no looking good and so passionately desirous about finding her bonds with people.
I wept with her in parts. I introspected. I opened a conversation with my own daughter to discuss my failings as a mother.
Ashley’s narration of emotions is part funny and part touching but most of all it makes a permanent place in the heart.

Welcome! To a journey of soaring high ...
A masterpiece creation from a Maestro and the lady who is a mental health expert. If you want to practice living a meaningful life and if you find meaning in music this is where you will find it. No big concepts rather small screenshots of daily life, touching stories of exceeding one’s own limit all interwoven with musical notes. Each chapter can be read individually so definitely a book to find a place by the bedside too. Pick it up when when the demons in your mind disturb you.
I will do just that. And yes I intend to visit the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. It seems to me like a temple for humanity and endless possibilities.

Brutally honest narrative was shattering and uplifting. It’s a book that touches my heart. Strengthens my resolve to share my story and story of so many women that remain untold. The narration is lyrical and like balm to our heaviness in the heart. Since hurt people hurt people therefore this book is much needed. To repair and heal the hurt. Soul stirring and thought provoking.

Historia
The gap between what it's really like to be a woman and what people expect women to be is a primary cause of burnout, because we exhaust ourselves trying to close the space between the two. How can you 'love your body' when everything around you tells you you're inadequate? How do you 'lean in' at work when you're already giving 110 percent and aren't recognized for it? How can you live happily and healthily in a world that is constantly telling you you're too fat, too needy, too noisy and too selfish?

A beautiful, brilliantly researched book foe women
Revisado: 04-02-21
I heard their podcast on Dare to Lead with Brène Brown and got hooked to the book. It’s a scientific narration that tells what ails us Human Givers , a distinct category from human beings. We probably know what is not right but they put words, scientific research and and real life examples to help find the truth. Not preachy, not self helpish but more like a conversation with self. I recommend to every woman who feels all she’s done is being a “giver”.

An honest and touching account.
Revisado: 01-07-21
I got to know that the level of hard work which is needed ,the depth of knowledge, advice from experts and assimilation of it to find resolutions - all of it hard work. And it isn’t easy to be at helm.
The book is powerful and honest and has a human touch to it. I like President Obama’s commitment to issues that were close to his heart and above all his impeccable integrity during the years of presidency.
The hard work that went behind Obama care, US Iran nuclear deal or pulling out forces from Afghanistan is really inspiring. If I hadn’t read the account maybe I would have never known the hard work that is needed to keep fragile issues on the table till resolution.
What touched me most was his commitment to not lose precious lives in wars. His meeting of wounded soldiers and their families is indeed thoughtful.
Powerful narration, witty anecdotes about daughters , First Lady and the White House staff keeps the pace.
A very inspiring book that broadened my perspective about the world and the role I can play in it.

To lead is to live dangerously. It's romantic and exciting to think of leadership as all inspiration, decisive action, and rich rewards, but leading requires taking risks that can jeopardize your career and your personal life. It requires putting yourself on the line, disrupting the status quo, and surfacing hidden conflict. And when people resist and push back, there's a strong temptation to play it safe. Those who choose to lead plunge in, take the risks, and sometimes get burned.

Wish I read this 15 years back !
Revisado: 01-07-21
I picked this book as it was highly appreciated by Rabi Jonathan Sacks. The book is insightful, has crystal clear clarity and has a human touch to every thing being narrated.
The problems that exist is known to us all, but to give every issue a birds eye view and then circle down to ground and highlight the real issue is what made me immerse in every line.
Concepts like taking a balcony view, creating a sanctuary and compassion all of it was very powerful. The examples of leaders are from South America, Israel and South East Asia which is a breath of fresh air. Generally all examples are US and Europe centric.
I recommend this book to anyone who is in search for meaning in life. And for anyone who wants to make even a small difference in the world. Because leadership is immeasurable and it depends and where you want to make an impact big, medium or tiny.
I will go back to the book several times, each time I need an anchorage to my troubled thoughts.

I not just read the book but embraced the whole idea of Alicia’s journey. It’s real, powerfully fearless and yet so honest in all its failings. I recommended it to daughters, friends and women. For it is a collective story of women today, our trials and tribulations, for our place under the sun and for just division of women’s rights as against the man’s world it’s been so far.
More power time Alicia’s pen and singing.

Historia
Cal Newport's clearly written manifesto flies in the face of conventional wisdom by suggesting that it should be a person's talent and skill - and not necessarily their passion - that determines their career path. Newport, who graduated from Dartmouth College (Phi Beta Kappa) and earned a PhD from MIT, contends that trying to find what drives us, instead of focusing on areas in which we naturally excel, is ultimately harmful and frustrating to job seekers.

It is like discovering myself at 50
Revisado: 01-20-19
Fact that it debunks passion hypothesis is what makes the book stand out. So much trash has been written about passion that most tend to believe it as gospel truth. Intact it made me feel inadequate despite having acquired career capital in my 22 years of working with the government in India. For once I feel adequate to take on critics who trivialise the work we do.
It also reaffirms my belief that systematic hard work is the only way out no matter how “uncool” it may appear. This book along with Deep Work is what I’m recommending to my teen kids and nieces who are set to embark on college life.
In one word this book is life altering!
