Five Years Earlier: Henry Dunne knows three things: that agreeing to host this raucous house party was a terrible idea, that he absolutely cannot show up to his nursing shift tomorrow with a hangover, and that the beautiful redhead in the corner will be sleeping in his bed tonight.

Loved the story, but wished I'd read it.
Revisado: 07-09-20
I loved the book. Funny. Honest. A couple to root for.
BUT I hated listening to it. The male narrator was great with the main character, but his treatment of the heroine and everyone else was horrible. His best friend seemed like a dog. The heroine a whiney baby. His brother an 80 year old WASP. The ethnic characters sounded unintelligent. It really took me out of the story.
I don't think I'll ever listen to a book with this narrator again.

Historia
There's one woman though who can break down his walls. Someone who knew him then. Who can reach inside to that heart he protects fiercely, because she's the only one he ever gave it to. When they collide, it's tender and savage, gentle and rough, and makes them both hungry for more of this electric, once-in-a-blue moon kind of sexual chemistry. But it's a battle of wills between Michael and the woman he loves, with words and emotions held close to the vest.

Historia
Young Jane Young's heroine is Aviva Grossman, an ambitious congressional intern in Florida who makes the life-changing mistake of having an affair with her boss - who is beloved, admired, successful, and very married - and blogging about it. When the affair comes to light, the congressman doesn't take the fall, but Aviva does, and her life is over before it hardly begins. She becomes a late-night talk show punchline; she is slut shamed and considered a blight on politics in general. How does one go on after this?

DNF not for me
Revisado: 01-15-18
I was bored and annoyed and bored by this. I slogged thru first 4 chapters & then acted on my NEw Years resolution to DNF books that aren't for me . No more dutiful death marches to end of an unfulfilling book.
Took too long to get going. I didn't want to spend another second with the character who narrated the early chapters. It wasn't funny or charming or endearing. So I bailed.

Any additional comments?
This was a good YA tale based on classic yarns like Prisoner of Zenda except with a teenage hero. It was a little too long and since it was translated many of the names were hard to absorb/follow but I would recommend a listen based on the good narration and story.

I liked the story and characters a lot. But the narration was really poor. There were multiple glitches which I've never heard in an audible title before.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Conflicted
Revisado: 05-11-17
What did you love best about In the Woods?
Loved all the detectives. Liked the ambiguousness of the story.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that nothing was tied up. That's how life really is.
What does Steven Crossley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I enjoyed his narration a lot - I just think I should have read THIS book. The pace as a listen was too deliberate. I wished I had the book so I could speed read thru a lot of it. It's not narrator's fault that the story as written is so deliberately.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Nope. This just wasn't an optimal audio book for me. The pacing is very deliberate and I found myself drifting off and having to listen again. I think it took me almost 8 additional hours to listen to the book.
Any additional comments?
I'm really conflicted b/c I really liked the book. I just think that as written it isn't the optimal "listen" for me. I went out and purchased the actual paperbacks of books 2-5 immediately after finishing so I liked the book. I just found myself annoyed by the pace of the story as an audiobook in a way that I think I could have read faster or skipped entirely in a book. I found myself impatiently waiting for something to happen over and over. This just wasn't the best audiobook choice for me. I thought the narrator was a little too mature for the hero, I kept picturing derek jacobi...
