Great follow up to Rebel Yell
Revisado: 11-25-20
Great read and history of J.E.B Stewart. I've read "Rebel Yell" and "The Last Cavalier" in succession, great follow up and history lesson reading battles from two sides of the Confederate Army. Well written. However, as in many other reviews regarding this book, there are a few spots in the audio repeating itself. Not a big deal, slightly annoying. Overall well worth the credit and then some. I was hoping to get a better perspective on the relationship between J.E.B Stewart and Turner Ashby, the book briefly touched on the subject. Overall great book.

Historia
General Stonewall Jackson was like no one anyone had ever seen. In April of 1862 he was merely another Confederate general with only a single battle credential in an army fighting in what seemed to be a losing cause. By middle June he had engineered perhaps the greatest military campaign in American history and was one of the most famous men in the Western World. He had given the Confederate cause what it had recently lacked: hope.

Great individual story and interesting perspective of the Civil war from the side of the Confederate General Stonewall Jackson. If you like underdog stories this one is a great read.

Hampton Sides' superb account of this epic clash in the Korean War relies on years of archival research, unpublished letters, declassified documents, and interviews with scores of marines and Koreans who survived the siege. While expertly detailing the follies of the American leaders, On Desperate Ground is an immediate, grunt's-eye view of history, enthralling in its narrative pace and powerful in its portrayal of what ordinary men are capable of in the most extreme circumstances.

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Spanish-American War, then pay attention...Two captivating manuscripts in one audiobook: The Spanish-American War and The Philippine-American War. The Spanish-American War really only lasted about 10 weeks (the buildup and decision to go to war took longer than the war itself), but a peace treaty was not signed until December of 1898. This was an event that was the tipping point for the end of the Spanish Empire and the rise of the US as a formidable player on the world stage.

Simply written with strong disdain for America
Revisado: 06-11-20
What I enjoyed: Simplistic writing style. Hats off to the narrator (Jason), placing the voice inflections in all the right spots. Without that, it would have been like listening to someone read a really long email.
What I didn’t like: The authors obvious disdain for the United States. The author transparently interjects opinions throughout the book with broad stroke generalizations. The book, "Spanish-American War" denies the reader of an unbiased historic perspective. Throughout the book, opinions regarding how leadership, nations and the general population thought were spoken as fact.

Historia
The First World War is one of history’s greatest tragedies. In this remarkable and intimate account, author G. J. Meyer draws on exhaustive research to bring to life the story of how the Great War reduced Europe’s mightiest empires to rubble, killed 20 million people, and cracked the foundations of the world we live in today. World War I is unique in the number of questions about it that remain unsettled. After more than 90 years, scholars remain divided on these questions, and it seems likely that they always will.

Historia
The Last Punisher is a bold, no-holds-barred first-person account of the Iraq War. With wry humor and moving testimony, Kevin Lacz tells the story of his tour in Iraq with SEAL Team Three, the warrior elite of the navy. This legendary unit, known as The Punishers, included Chris Kyle ( American Sniper), Mike Monsoor, Ryan Job, and Marc Lee. These brave men were instrumental in securing the key locations in the pivotal 2006 Battle of Ramadi, told with stunning detail in this book.

too much bravado. missing quiet confidence

Lacked the humble nature of not needing to over prop toughness. Discussing SEAL teams, toughness is implied, this book seemed to try to convince the reader of toughness

James A. Warren's battle-driven history shows how this elite culture has produced the best warriors in the country, through six decades, several open wars, and many smaller interventions. From their heroic performance in the Pacific War, against Japanese troops on god-forsaken islands, to their "tip-of-the-lance" leadership in key operations in the two Gulf Wars, the Marines have proven again and again that elite men with elite training are worth entire armies.

Every day ordinary young Americans are fighting and dying in Iraq, with the same bravery, honor, and sense of duty that have distinguished American troops throughout history. One of these is Jason Dunham, a 22-year-old Marine corporal from the one-stoplight town of Scio, New York, whose stunning story reporter Michael M. Phillips discovered while he was embedded with a Marine infantry battalion in the Iraqi desert.
