Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

This book answers questions
Revisado: 03-16-21
While reading Mr Maharidge’s account of growing up with a WW2 veteran I think I learned who my father was. My father was a Gunnersmate on a destroyer escort. He basically lived inside of the turret for hours and the deafening noise of the gunfire may have had something to do with who my father became. He was fortunate enough to be on a ship and not on a beachhead, which he mentioned many many times of the horrors of being an invading foot soldier. My father suffered the stress of hours of shelling and later he spoke of the fear of KamaKazi attacks. My point is that after reading the description of the authors father opened my eyes to the possibility that my dad suffered the same type of trama. My father had constant headaches, a terrible temper at times and the temper outbursts caused my mother to threaten divorce. He would get very emotional when on Sunday afternoons we would ALWAYS watch “Victory At Sea” and he was especially emotional when there were scenes of bringing wounded on board from the fighting on the islands and then there were the burials at sea is when he would get up and leave.
The diagnosis that were explained, which I never really gave much thought to, gave me a whole new perspective of who and why my father may have been who he was. I must say what our MARINES went through in the Pacific is mind boggling and I thank them for their courage and bravery. I also thank the author for not just writing about the battles but his very thorough analysis of the trama these men experienced. His analysis may have answered why my dad was who he was.

Historia
>When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

Most heartwarming story
Revisado: 09-14-20
Considering that I have limited knowledge about animals in the wild I was drawn to this book because of vague remarks that I have heard over the years about Elephants. I am so glad that I did choose this book and how it described these wonderful creatures.
For me, this is one of three books that I have read in my lifetime, that left a lasting love and most importantly an understanding for something I knew nothing about. I recommend this book to everyone who loves animals especially animals in the wild. To read and find out how intelligent and mystical these creatures are made every moment an awestruck moment.

This is the kind of book for college kids
Revisado: 11-15-19
Mr Chaffetz wrote a book that should be read by every incoming freshman in colleges aound the country. Maybe realizing that someone is presenting them with undeniable truths through facts that can be traced with alittle bit of time and effort, they would be forced to think that maybe the left may not always be telling them the whole truth and never the truth.

Historia
In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

Historia
Make sure the kids aren’t around! Just because you’re a grown-up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the art of the children’s bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 12 short stories written in the style of a classic kids' tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach. What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. And much more!

Historia
Things I’ll Never Forget is the story of a young high school graduate in 1965 who faces being drafted into the Army or volunteering for the Marine Corps. These are his memories of funny times, disgusting times and deadly times. The author kept a journal for an entire year; therefore many of the dates, times and places are accurate. The rest is based on memories that are forever tattooed on his brain. This is not a pro-war book, nor is it anti-war. It is the true story of what the Marine Corps was like in the late 1960’s.
