Historia
Five hundred years after Martin Luther and his Ninety-Five Theses ushered in the Reformation, best-selling author and controversial bishop and teacher John Shelby Spong delivers 12 forward-thinking theses to spark a new reformation to reinvigorate Christianity and ensure its future. Spong contends that there is mounting pressure among Christians for a radically new kind of Christianity - a faith deeply connected to the human experience instead of outdated dogma.

A realistic view of religion and why it’s time for change
Revisado: 01-14-25
Bishop Spong meticulously includes bible quotes and explanations and provides insight on the “literal” meaning that religion today uses as rhetoric and mandates, and the actual meaning of what was most likely meant at the time the Bible was written. He also compares the gospels and inconsistencies found between them. This book was great and in my opinion makes you think about religion in a whole different way. To me, it clearly exposes that while the message of Jesus was meant to unite us, the rhetoric and misinterpretation of religious groups has divided us and ultimately committed the worst crimes in his name. This book will really open your mind, if you are conscious enough to diverge from the 1st century “written in stone” mentality.

As the child of refugees of World War II Europe and a renowned philosopher and scholar of propaganda, Jason Stanley has a deep understanding of how democratic societies can be vulnerable to fascism: Nations don’t have to be fascist to suffer from fascist politics. In fact, fascism’s roots have been present in the United States for more than a century.

A great read - everyone should educate themselves
Revisado: 12-02-24
As someone who did not grow up during the fascist era, but had parents who did, this was a must read and an eye opening book. It is uncanny how history seems to repeat itself if people are not educated on what has happened in the past and the methods that were employed. This book just_and highlights the importance of that education, and it’s definitely a must read for everybody from today’s day and age, especially those living in the United States.

The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

An inside look at Arnold and priceless wisdom
Revisado: 02-01-24
I’ve always loved Arnold Schwarzenegger. As a body builder, actor, and politician (although sadly I had moved away by the time he became governor of CA). This book is full of tips, advice, and he shares so much that I really did not know about him. His vision and drive to succeed coming from his humble upbringing, to his massive success in everything he did is so inspiring. I admire him even more now, and I think aside from the great advice given, this book gives a great synopsis about his human, giving side. If you pay attention, there’s so much to learn from him. I love that he narrated his own book too.

Historia
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

All the better narrated after reading the book so many years ago!
Revisado: 04-02-23
I am a big Anne Rice fan and have read most of her books. Listening to this on audible was a re-read for me, since I read this novel many years ago. It was just as good for me now as it was then, and the performance by the narrator was amazing. I loved how she incorporated accents. I can’t wait to go on to book two. If you enjoy the supernatural and have not experienced Anne Rice before, you need to check this one out. It’s a little long, but worth it.

Could not get into this one
Revisado: 10-07-21
I found myself struggling with this book, had to make the decision to put it down. Maybe at a later date, for now it was not a very interesting listen. Performance/reading was great, it was more the storyline that I could not stay focused on.

A MUST READ — wow!
Revisado: 07-12-21
This book was different than anything I could have expected. The reality is that the times that we are going through right now are very difficult times where there is so much anger, division, and resentment because of past histories. This book expands the view about all past histories and helped me realize that we cannot erase history simply for present day agendas that do more harm than good to the human race as a whole. The content in the book is so much more than the title. If you have an open mind and really want to be educated about people from many different cultures and the history behind them, you need to read this book! But… If you’ve already been brainwashed by present day agendas, you might still want to listen to it and perhaps be more educated about history as a whole. This was an amazing book - One totally different from anything I would’ve ever read, but I’m so glad that I decided to take a chance on this. Bravo to the author for writing this. The narrator was impeccable as well and brought forth the strength of the information provided.

Revisado: 06-08-21
I have never known much about native American stories or wisdom and I’m very grateful to have come across this book, as the wisdom and stories that Bear Heart shares are eye-opening and helped me look at things from a different perspective. This is definitely one I would go back to and listen to in times where I need an answer to questions that I cannot resolve. Thank you.

Easy to listen to, great wisdom
Revisado: 06-02-21
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. It was very easy to listen to and I really loved the wisdom that was shared with the listener. I feel like there were things that could be learned from this book and I am glad that I decided to give it a try. I loved Joe‘s character and what he had to share with each of the visitors that came to see him. The description of the surroundings of the hermitage helped me picture what it looked like. It was a nice stress-free book to listen to and had many parts that made me think about life and what’s really important.

Who is Elmyr? Simply put, Elmyr de Hory is known by many as the most notorious art forger of all time. He believed that if a forgery hangs in a museum for long enough - as he claimed many of his works did - it eventually becomes real. Yet, as with many fraudsters, much of the myth is exaggeration or invention.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was very entertaining and interesting at the same time to learn about the greatest art forger of all time. Not a subject I would normally read about, my interest peaked because Elmyr was Hungarian. This is a great read, quick and entertaining, and brings the human side of Elmyr to light with its twists and unexpected turns. The narration was excellent as well!
