Historia
In I Thought You Were Dead, author Pete Nelson delivers a novel that is all at once heartwarming, heartbreaking, and heart-wrenchingly funny. Most of all, it's a story that proves that when a good dog is by your side, especially one with whom you can have an engaging conversation, life can be full of surprises.

A Glimpse At Life With Stella and Paul
Revisado: 04-14-10
My first disappointment is that I could find no other audio books by the author, Peter Nelson. That said, I slid into the story, page-by-page, my interest deepening as the chapters unfolded; bringing me closer to Paul and Stella. Then I grew to appreciate the other characters presented to me through their interaction with Paul and Stella. Stella's indomitable spirit and her heartwarming relationship with Paul I found to be refreshing, touching, and naturally believable. As a human who contends life is so much more fully enriched when shared with a furry soul-mate, the conversational exchange between Paul and Stella was delightful, familiar, and credible. There was a point in the book where I felt I might not be able to finish hearing about the world that was Paul and Stella. But, I was quickly surprised by the author's gift for offering other avenues--newly opened doors; other roadways the character could take. The author did this with such commendable timing and subtle redirection that I soon found my attention and focus shifting, following Paul's questing heart and discovering, with him, what life holds for those individuals willing to risk the known and comfortable for the often scary and seemingly-threatening choices we must sometimes take if we are to survive, grow strong, and appreciate life. The narrator was engaging and able to paint, in my mind's eye, the visual rendering of each character and pair those images to their personalities with delightful clarity. I hope this author has other books in the works, and that Paul and the other charismatic individuals he introduced us to in this book will be featured in more stories.

I Have Found a New Addiction
Revisado: 03-03-09
What a delight!!! This was one of the books Audio will say you may be interested in. The cover was a bit off-putting but I kept coming back to the description and after I read some of the reviews I purchased the book. From the beginning I was pulled in to this story. Written with wit and fun, a great story line, and imbued with enough of the "unknown" to lure the reader in--and I was hooked. Very entertaining and a wonderful approach to the life of Sookie Stackhouse and the world in which she lives. Each chapter unfolds like a gift. If the description of this book intrigues you, get it! It is always exciting finding an author you like--I usually end up getting every book by a newly discovered author -- I plan to read all the books about Sookie Stackhouse. As a plus, the narrator, Johanna Parker, is great!!

Of Familial Ties, Ghosts, and Critters
Revisado: 02-25-09
Loving animals as I do I wanted to delve into this story as soon as possible. Animals are given pivotal roles and how they impact the decisions and lives of the characters in the story is woven seamlessly through the book. I enjoyed the different family members, with their varying "gifts" and how those gifts worked to further the story line and interactions of the characters was well done. I would have given four stars to this review, however, the narrator sounded lackluster and the "listening" of her narration seemed to move in slow motion. I was able to amp up the speed of narration and that seemed to help a bit.

Then and Now, Together
Revisado: 02-25-09
A friend recommended this book as well as the other McKettrick novels. She said she very much enjoyed McKettrick's Way, so I ordered it and told her so. She then said I should read "Sierra's Homecoming" first, so I ordered it, as well. I quickly got into this story and found the characters entertaining, curious, and not lacking in wit and humor. I could see this book being made into a movie, or Hallmark featured movie. The narrator helped to pull the story into a delightful mind's eye view.

Love the Werecat Concept
Revisado: 02-05-09
I enjoyed listening to this book, the narrator was wonderful in rendering the characters and their thoughts, speech, actions. I found the prides interesting and within a short time I felt a kinship with the main pride. The female lead is refreshingly strong and feminine. What I would like to have experienced was a more in depth, vicarious involvement "as part of the pride" in their werecat form. I am hoping to find that in the sequel which I look forward to hearing!

Historia
A Cambridge historian is found drowned, clutching a glass prism in her hand. The book she was writing about Isaac Newton's involvement with alchemy remains unfinished. When her son, Cameron, asks his former lover, Lydia Brooke, to ghostwrite the missing final chapters of his mother's book, Lydia agrees and moves into Elizabeth's house. Soon Lydia discovers that the violence that has fallen across present-day Cambridge may have its origins in the troubling evidence that Elizabeth's research has unearthed.

Such potential...
Revisado: 01-15-09
The woman reading the book gave it an air of mystery and intrigue--her voice echoed the lyrical prose of the author and gave it the correct amount of suspense. Sadly, the story itself, was a jumble of ideas, genres, characters, and perspective. I kept listening, due mainly because I could sense and imagine where the book could have gone. There was such wonderful potential for this book--an ending that could have left me surprised and energized, but failed. I thrill to the prospect of finding a new story from an author new to me. When I read a book that leaves me wanting to immediately order every book by that author, I am in book reader heaven. This book, for me, did not do that.

Best Dog Story I've Read So Far
Revisado: 01-13-09
In each chapter the author relates facets of the life he shared with Merle; which were delightful and humorous, enchanting and poignant. And on every level, the story is thoroughly satisfying.
Ted Kerasote has captured the endearing character of Merle's personality. Few humans ever know their fur kin so well. And much of what made Merle's persona so robust was the freedom Ted Kerasote gave Merle--allowing his canine companion to become the best dog he could be--and that being, not necessarily the best dog as defined by human standards.
By respecting each other and by compromising a part of themselves for the other, they became the best of partners, and in retrospect, the better beings for having known each other.
If you have ever had a special relationship with a canine--a bond that connects the two of you on a level that transcends the old phrase "A man and his dog", this book will make total sense to you, and you will wonder how you ever missed the cues your canine companion was giving you.

Brought to Life With Gold
Revisado: 01-13-09
Each time I am in possession of a Dean Koontz book, I am excited like a child at Christmas awaiting the opening of a gift. This book was such a treat. Not far into the book I sat back, smiled and sighed very contentedly--knowing this was going to be a gem of a tale--he was already describing, with tender understanding, a subject dear to my heart--He was writing about Goldens.
As with other of his books, Dean Koontz weaves the words as if magic interlaced each sentence. And with a keen knowledge gained only from personal experience of the mysteries of life, the author describes the wondrous and how it can influence our lives.
Goldens are like the brightest star, blazing through the darkness of night, and they are like a sun that outshines the day. They burn so intensely, so brightly. And for some, that blaze is for only a short time on this planet. Well, at least they get to spend more time in Heaven if their stay here is not as long as we'd like it to be. In nature there must always be a balance. Perhaps their stay is weighed with the goodness that fills them. It is said one cannot get enough of a good thing--Goldens are that good thing to me.
I think our furry family members have the capacity for deep compassion, love, and concern for beings of all types, human and otherwise. I believe it goes beyond human understanding--because what they give comes from a heart that is pure, a spirit that is guileless, and a soul that operates on a level higher than anything close to human.
I am convinced Goldens unfurl their wings when we are not looking. Have you ever noticed an expression they have, especially when they smile, that gives hint to something wondrous and grand? As if they have the most incredible gift they are hiding behind their back but you can tell they want so very much to show you what it is. Well, when I see that expression I could swear I feel the flutter of their wings in my heart. Thank you for supporting Golden Rescue.

Deep Thoughts By
Revisado: 01-13-09
Beautifully written. Poignant and bittersweet. So many possibilities for happiness, but the ill winds of dysfunctional fortune blow through every chapter. Being drawn deeply into Edgar's plight, I wanted him to find joy and happiness, I almost needed it--so magnetic is the author's storytelling that it has that influence in the reader's mind. Feeling more and more that life would not treat Edgar as I wished, I could not stop reading his tale. The ending caught me by surprise...

Being a dog lover and thoroughly enjoying a story with engaging characters and a story that pulls my imagination along with every scene, every question, and every revelation, I must say I very much enjoyed this story. A delightful vacation for my mind. At the end of the book I was smiling, happy and hoping Iris Johansen had written more books like this one.
