Solid and definitely worthwhile, but not King's very best. Audio isn't great either.

I'll start by disclosing that I'm on of those King fans that, so far out of the +-40 or so books and collections of his I've read, I've yet to not enjoy one. I love King and can (so far) enjoy all his work. That said, I do have my favourites and lesser favourites. And opinions on King vary hugely, so if you like King, you'll like this, and should give it a try. All that said, it was kind of middling on my SK Pantheon so far. Not amazing, but not bad either. Worth the price of admission, and I'm glad to have read it. But having just come off the back of "You Like it Darker" and the Mercedes Trilogy, it was a step down. Also, the audio and narration on these aren't great. I enjoy Willem Defoe as an actor, but his narration of The Langoliers was appalling. For some reason, his British accent shifts from bad Cockney (which the character clearly isn't) to some kind of thick South African accent (I know that one anywhere, being South African myself) and back again. And he makes the young female teen character into Fran Drescher in The Nanny, which makes no sense and is painful indeed. It almost ruins the story completely. But not quite. It's a good one, story-wise. From there, the narrating/narrator improves with each tale. By "Sun Dog" it's very good, actually. Sun Dog is also connected to the novel "Needful Things", which is cool if you're a fan of that book. This is well worth a read, if you like King in general. Not where I'd recommend starting, though, if you're looking for his best audiobook experience.

A brilliant example of "this kind" of King book

I'm a huge fan of King. About 1/3 of the way through endeavouring to read all of his books. I have enjoyed them all so far. Yet to encounter a "bad" SK book, in my opinion. I've read enough by now to know that what some love about certain books of his, is what lets others down. And, that he has certain "types" of books. Again, I love em all so far, but I do have my favourites, and less favourites. This is one of those that centres around childhood friendships, rich characters, small town life, and of course, crazy circumstances that the seemingly very real people he brings so brilliantly to life, have to deal with. This one has aliens, covert military ops, telepathy, and all that good stuff. Long, but fast paced and really, really good. The audio isn't great. It sounds like it was recorded on an 80s dictaphone, but the volume button sorted that out for me, well enough. I struggled a bit with hearing the narrator deliver all the dialogue from a mentally handicapped character. Not in a woke political way, mind you. It was just kinda... Tough to listen to at times. That said though, I loved this book and highly recommend it. It's like "It" meets "Two Talented Bastids". With some creepy alien vibes thrown in.

I absolutely loved this. I love all of King's work, to greater or lesser degrees. But I do have my favourites. Of the four or five short story collections I've read of his, this may well be my favourite. Almost all the stories are brilliant. And the few that aren't, are pretty darn close to it.

Gnarly, dark and brutal. But moving and beautiful

Visceral and beautiful. Dark and inspiring. It felt like the darker aspects of The Dark Tower books, although not directly related, story-wise, I don't think. King also has a way of weaving profound religious philosophy into some gnarly settings. This was fast-paced, brutal, harrowing, and awesome. I will need some time to recover from it. But I loved it. I also enjoy King narrating his own books, although I know some don't, so that was a plus for me also.

Brilliant, fascinating book. As useful and insightful for mom-writers as it is for those not inclined toward the pen. Long enough to be thorough, short enough to be neither daunting nor boring. Excellent listen.

I'm about 25 - 30 or so books into my 8 year or so love affair with King's writing. I'm kinda getting somewhere I guess. With a catalogue like his, spanning so much time and bending so many genres, it makes sense that so many of his most devout Constant Readers' ranking lists differ so starkly from one to the next. Some people's top tens are full of others' bottom ten, and vice versa. Point is, I've covered about enough at this stage to know what my favourite types of King books, versus those I tend to merely like, as opposed to love, or even adore. This is one of the ones I liked best. The

This was just great fun. Well-paced, charming, gripping and unexpected. Won't work for people who are put off by science though. Similarly, real science experts will probably poke holes in the finer points. But if you're a lay-fan of science and you like a sweet, fun, exciting, moving easy (audio) read, this is just great. Can't wait to read another of Weir's books. Loved The Martian (although I only saw the movie) and it seems there's one more set on the moon... Off to Luna with me, as soon as can!

I love Stephen King. Everything I've read of his, which by now is getting to be a lot, I've enjoyed. Some more than others, sure, but I like em am. That said, I know I'm in the minority among King fans, though, when I say that I generally prefer his less scary and less supernatural stories. I like those too, of course. Especially The Dark Tower. But I especially love the way he writes about humans in the real world. And this story is deeply human. And it's an amazing insight to all aspects of the human condition. Plus, it's just a fun, if sometimes emotionally wrenching, story. I really loved it. And the narrator was great. 9.25/10
