Historia
Award-winning author Mark Kurlansky has drawn enthusiastic praise for his books, which are sharply-focused studies as well as glorious celebrations of their subjects. In The Basque History of the World, he turns his eye toward Europe’s oldest surviving culture - a culture as mysterious as it is fascinating. Settled in the western Pyrenees Mountains of France and Spain, the Basque nation is not drawn on maps and the origin of their forbidden language has never been discovered.

Revisado: 06-08-23
It’s one thing to know there are basque peoples. It’s another to know about the enterprising nature of Basque culture that lead to their often misty presence during the founding of New France and the fisheries that would become New England. It’s also another issue entirely to have seen them appear in the headlines as being singled out by the Spanish government as having no right to protest their situation and subjected status. Mark’s work, as simply calling it a book is not correct, binds all that and fleshes out the whole of the basque people. I’m so glad George Guidall narrated this as he simply fit the charm of Mark’s storytelling perfectly.

Historia
When Robert Frost was a child, his family thought he would grow up to be a baseball player. Instead, he became a poet. His life on a farm in New Hampshire inspired him to write "poetry that talked", and today he is famous for his vivid descriptions of the rural life he loved so much. There was a time when Frost had to struggle to get his poetry published.

Historia
Meg Ryan narrates this classic tale of Goldilocks and her encounter with the three bears, one of the most cherished stories in children's literature. This modern version of the original from the master storytellers, the Brothers Grimm, will captivate young listeners. And it will also serve as a helpful reminder that a little caution goes a long way in the real world.

The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise

Historia
Scholars, journalists, and politicians uphold Muslim-ruled medieval Spain - "al-Andalus" - as a multicultural paradise, a place where Muslims, Christians, and Jews lived in harmony. There is only one problem with this widely accepted account: It is a myth. In this groundbreaking book, Northwestern University scholar Darío Fernández-Morera tells the full story of Islamic Spain. As professors, politicians, and pundits continue to celebrate Islamic Spain for its "multiculturalism" and "diversity", Fernández-Morera sets the record straight.

Best historically critical work I have ever experienced.
Revisado: 03-18-18
Normally I would review a book in regards to a impersonal evaluation of its contents. That said, my personal experience of this book has set a new bar which speaks well for itself. I loved this work by the conclusion of the introduction. Only several chapters in and I can say without doubt it is simply the best history book I’ve experienced. Prior to which only works like Plutarch’s “the Lives,” held such a high place in construct, analysis, and depth. The work is brave, precise, richly set with a wealth of contemporary citations from both opposing views to back each and every point. The author’s mastery of presentation sends one into the joys and elation one experiences when first meeting Socratic thought and argument through Platonic works. Or the euphoria one experiences upon scouring the preparedness of defense, and the perfect anticipation of countering positions contained in Thomas Aquinas’s works.

WWI Historical Masterpiece
Revisado: 03-18-18
An excellent story encompassing, both widely and narrowly, the passing of events for the Ottomans during WWI. For those captivated by the stories of WWI on the western front this is a must to fill in the full picture of the Ottoman theatre. Detailed accounts are riveting in all the appropriate places. Situational details help paint scenes from a world most English speaking readers will find foreign and intriguing. Lastly, it marks the questions of trends, which plagued WWII Europe and the African, Middle Eastern and Asian regions to this day, and offers a firm foundation to seeking the answers.

A lighthearted romance. Mostly clean, but might make restaurant employees uncomfortable!
Revisado: 01-06-18
It’s a fun, lighthearted romance about spouses who have drifted apart and have a “magical” happenstance to bring them together again. If that’s what you enjoy, you’ll enjoy this.
Most all of it is clean. No sex, thank goodness. There was a mention of “The summer of phone sex. Lots and lots of phone sex.” Those sentences blared over the car speaker just as the Pizza Hut attendant opened the drive thru window. She cocked an eyebrow at me, quickly traded my cash for pizza, shook her head in a, “Whatever suits you, Lady, I guess,” and quickly shut the drive thru window without saying a word. So....this book can succeed in making restaurant employees uncomfortable! I laughed most of the way home.

A wonderful narration to a beloved story.
Revisado: 10-10-17
I listened with my three daughters. The story, of course, is still as perfect as it was in my girlhood. The pace of the narration, and the melody of Mary Sarah's voice, made it all the sweeter, all the more comedic when called for, and all the more real. Recommended.
