The performance was great, but the overall story was simply okay. I often lost my interest and had to pause the book and go back because my mind had wandered. However, I wouldn't say it's a bad book not worth listening to. I would recommend it if you are a huge fan of murder mysteries and are heavily in to that genre.

I'm ashamed to admit that this was my first Louise Erdrich novel. I had always meant to read her before, but never had. I was not disappointed. As someone who lived around many Native American tribes, I appreciated her appreciation and unique look in to a modern Native American tribe's life and practices. (Yes, I'm aware she is descended from Native Americans.)

The subject matter might be hard for some as it deals with a woman being attacked, but I feel it was handled eloquently and honestly. This was a wonderful book.

I am so thankful that the narrator was a Native (First Nations) man, it really, in my opinion, added an authenticity to the story.

Not Your Typical Zombie Story-Better!

This was a great book and, if you enjoy thrillers, this is a must read. It was a new spin on the old "zombie" story. It was not what I expected. In this day and age when the zombie story has gone off in every direction, most of which run in to the 'horror' genre and can be quite predictable, this was a great addition. It was thought provoking, entertaining, and the overall plot was not predictable.

The performance was great, too. The narrator has a pleasing voice and she did not overly do the male voices, which I appreciated because then it didn't sound overly fake.

This was a great mystery novel that was unique, suspenseful, and enjoyable. I enjoy listening to great mystery novels while cleaning or on my commute and this was perfect.

This was a good, solid 'page turner' type of listen. It was not a generic mystery and had a great main character who was relatable.

I really wanted to like this novel, if not love it. But I found it overbearing and the young girl quite annoying as the story progressed. It was not a total loss, as in I finished it and did not abandon it altogether (which I only do to quite hideous words of literature). But I would not recommend it to my other literary friends.

Grisham is a great go-to for a quick, entertaining novel that you don't necessarily need to listen to every last second (in other words-you can be driving, running, or doing something else).

This novel is no different-I enjoyed it thoroughly. It wasn't quite one of his classic Grisham novels, but still highly entertaining.

Heartfelt, Poignant, and a Scottish Accent to Boot

I am already a fan of the 'memoir' section and a huge fan of Alan Cumming's work on "The Good Wife"-so I was already optimistic when I began the book.

First off, the accent. I didn't know he was Scottish. Yes, puh-lease. It was beautiful. I anxiously awaited time in each day when I could stop what I was doing and listen to this amazing melody of words!

Secondly, this memoir was captivating. It had surprises and moments so emotional I was surprised at my deep reactions. That is, of course, the plus of having the author read his own words-he knows when to inflect in a certain way because he has lived through what he wrote.

This memoir, this moment in time in another's life, was so heartfelt and poignant that I was sad when the book ended-almost like I had to stop talking to a friend. I listened to this book well over a month ago and am still thinking of it. It is a "must read"!

Addicting for Teens-Enjoyable for Adults

I was sucked in to the world of "Divergent" from the very beginning. I will not deny that I enjoyed it thoroughly. However, I only gave the story an overall three stars because, in the end, there were several "teen fiction-esque" moments and story lines that reminded me that I was not listening to a book written for adults, but rather teenagers. The love story was a bit too campy and unrealistic for me (given, I know it's fiction!), but the overall idea of the book was, without a doubt, enthralling! I do wish more aspects of the story had been fleshed out and written about in greater detail, but, I cannot deny that the author did do a good job.

Call the Press! This memoir is amazing!

This memoir was a wonderful "read"! It captivated me from the very beginning and left me wanting more (I discovered it was a trilogy! Hip, hip, hooray!). I highly recommend this memoir to anyone who loves memoirs or is interested in social justice, the 1950s era, or nursing/midwifery.

I will agree with other reviewers that the narrator's voice was hard to hear. I had to keep the volume at the highest setting and even then sometimes her quiet whispering voice would say something softly and I would not be able to understand a word or phrase. Nonetheless, I rather enjoyed the narrator because she did seem to invoke this unassuming midwife down to a T!
