Historia
When Mexican-born novelist Lucia lands her first TV writing job, she immediately feels out of place in the White, male-dominated writers' room. Before long, she’s drawn to the only other Latino around, a janitor named Abel, and the two begin an unlikely friendship—one that’s tested when Abel’s confidences start showing up in Lucia’s scripts.

A brilliant satire
Revisado: 04-28-25
The system isn’t broken, it’s working just fine.
That’s the point of the play; the bitter truth of the whole drama.
It reshapes you into a clog for the endless churning machine until it spits you out; no identity, no self worth, no nothing.
Gotta pay the rent.
I loved it, simplistic yet poignant, and just perfectly equal part intense, dramatic, ironic and heartbreaking; a telenovela that deconstructed itself and then some.

Historia
Dedicated to the daughter she never had but sees all around her, Letter to My Daughter reveals Maya Angelou's path to living well and living a life with meaning. Told in her own inimitable style, this book transcends genres and categories: guidebook, memoir, poetry, and pure delight. Here in short spellbinding essays are glimpses of the tumultuous life that led Angelou to an exalted place in American letters and taught her lessons in compassion and fortitude.

The universal mother
Revisado: 03-09-25
I don’t think we will be graced by another miss Angelou. We’re lucky to have her wisdom and graciousness immortalized in paper and record. I listen to this audio once twice a year. God knows, for those of us who had grandmothers, or great grand mothers, how much we need their wisdom and kindness in our lives.
A most brilliant book.

Historia
No singer has been more mythologized and more misunderstood than jazz legend Billie Holiday, who helped to create much of the mystique herself with her autobiography, Lady Sings the Blues - and this authentic biography sets the record straight. Donald Clarke was given unrivaled access to a treasure trove of interviews from the 1970s with those who knew Lady Day in all stages of her short, tragic life - from her childhood in the streets and good-time houses of Baltimore, through the early days of success in New York and the years of fame, to her tragic decline.

A true jazz Tome
Revisado: 03-05-25
I felt the sense of martyrdom Virginia Woolf spoke off on her finishing the entirety of in search of the lost time with this jazz tome.
I loved the ghost written memoir, but this is the truest account of Billie Holiday that has ever been recorded in paper.
A phenomenal book, equal to the mythical woman that haunt it.
I believe both books will be on my re-read list for a long time.

Historia
A pioneer of LGBTQ studies dares to suggest that gayness is a way of being that gay men must learn from one another to become who they are. The genius of gay culture resides in some of its most despised stereotypes - aestheticism, snobbery, melodrama, glamour, caricatures of women, and obsession with mothers - and in the social meaning of style.

A record for the future
Revisado: 02-05-25
I believe E.Patrick Johnson did a remarkable scholarly work that shall be studied and and preserved for generations to come.
Not only by tracing oral records of the Southern Queers in the south but by amplifying them as testimonies of their existence, experiences, strife, survival and leaving their mark in history in a world that keep on denying their existence in creating the culture, recording their history, and all while retaining their Dignity.

Knocked-up and seriously broke, a successful publicist is plunged into a topsy-turvy world of welfare mothers and drug addicts, and forced to confront the family she left behind. Fabulation is a darkly comic rags-to-riches-to-rags tale of falling down and reaching up to find the goodness within.

Revisado: 01-26-25
A great play and adaption about a woman who gets humbled and faces the truths of her undoing with no Black Trauma or tragedy; but a lot of Dark humor and a lot of love.

Historia
Caroline "Tula" Cossey was born with male genitalia but went on to become a beautiful woman with a successful modeling career. My Story is Tula's candid thought-provoking, enlightening, humorous, heart wrenching, and motivational account of her struggles: her troubled childhood being bullied and taunted in East Anglia, her dreams of becoming a woman, the operations that liberated her sexually, and the journey from showgirl to James Bond girl to top international model.

Caroline’s survival
Revisado: 01-12-25
Caroline Cossey’a life is wild.
A typical course for any trans femme individuals, and it’s heavy.
From being a shy androgynous boy in Norfolk, to a party princess in London, to a showgirl to a burlesque darling in Europe.
All to ensure her survival and womanhood despite the heinous odds.
From creeps to thirsty admirers to the degenerate yellow pages press.
She didn’t have it easy, but she kept on going strong.
I don’t believe in revenge, but I believe survival is the best revenge and testament to conclude one long journey into becoming their absolute self and to honor their struggle.

Historia
In December 1917, Vaslav Nijinsky, the most famous male dancer in the Western world, moved into a Swiss villa with his wife and three-year-old daughter and began to go mad. A prodigy from his youth in Russia, Nijinsky came to international fame as a principal dancer in Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. When psychosis struck, he began to imagine himself as married to God. Although he lived another 30 years, he never regained his sanity. This diary is Nijinsky's confession and his prophecy, the only sustained, on-the-spot account we have by a major artist of entering psychosis.

A fragmented mind
Revisado: 12-25-24
An utterly distressing narrative and a depressing read.
It hurt to see how great Artists suffers internally.
It hurt even more knowing that the original copy was heavily edited by his wife because she wanted to keep his reputation intact and legacy alive; by removing most of his projected hatred at her, and his passive homosexuality.
However, beside a few chapters showcasing his true feeling regarding his abusive patron and the messiness of afternoon of Faun with Debussy, the memoir is a paranoia infused read.
He suffered so much despite his brilliance and that’s his tragedy.

Illuminating a lost history
Revisado: 10-18-24
Black Folks have always been the first, including the queer ones. The ones who were proud to be in the open and the ones who kept it in the closet; the one who did the most changes and the one who did the most by surviving. A brilliant little book with a wealth to gain and knowledge to treasure.
