Wanted some light listening, got so much more. A modern wizards tale from a mundane person view. Loved the characters and the narrator brought them to life like no other! Ended with a tear in my eye and wanting for more.

Excitement turned to dissapointment

I usually enjoy "reincarnation" stories and was excited about this seemingly long series. Here comes my rant:

Story starts of with foreshadowing, showing mc in his worst moment before "powerup" afterwhich we travel back in time to see how he ended up as such. The usual tropes in the genre appears, MC reincarnated, happy life, MC betrayed. Our maincharacter then proceeds to get shat on for half the book with non memorable characters dying left and right before arriving where we started "powerup". At this point he is still very weak and seems to have no grasp of what is happening in the world. Our main character seems not to have learned anything from all the struggle, going straight back to join the army of the country whose king murdered his family. All the while using his birth name.
I struggled through this book but i gave it a fair chance. I am dissapointed and i don't recommend it.

Dissapointment

Got hyped from first installment of the series but alas far to many decisions that makes no sense. Mc is a magician but fights in melee range instead. Just nuke the enemies after a hail of magic arrows and send out the black knights afterwards to deal with leftovers. Enemies can just come and go as they please while allies does nothing in battle.
Mc clearly recognises the red haired magician while at the kings castle during the ceremony yet is to stupid to connect the dots with the woman who later works for him?
Narrator throws me of at times, one moment we have the voice of a commander with a dark voice and the next the same commander has the voice of a child that screeches '' charge''..

I was hoping for a calculative smart mc as he was somewhat portrayed in the first book but instead got this.

I want more!

I had a hard time getting into this book for some reason, which i regret now that i'm finished with it. The book gets more intresting abit later on but the characters where very solid and likeable all the wway through. The only thing i have to complain about is that there are no more Audiobooks from this series out on audible yet, but that will hopefully change when more people have bought this one. Recommended!

Can't say more than that this series is very good and anyone who likes real and solid Fantasy Epic books this is for you. Highly recommended!

The narrator did an amazing job with the characters, giving them the feel of personality and depth that some narrators sometimes don't. The story was very intresting and things didn't always go the way you thought they would wich was a pleasant surprise. The thing i liked the most about this audiobook was the way the characters gain their powers, not just the usual train hard, become a wizard, explode the world thing, but something original. I hope the other books of this series gets released on audible soon!

Where does Blood and Steel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's definitely one of the better books i have listened to this year.

What other book might you compare Blood and Steel to and why?

I would compare this book to similar ones such The Renegade Series, The Sorcerer's Ring, The Godling Chronicles and so on. It is quite unique in some ways but it has the same feel as those books.

Any additional comments?

It has quite a unique storyline with good/bad people and the ones that are "neutral". I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Epic Fantasy stories and i hope they release the rest of this series soon.

I will definitely listen to this book once more.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Jaunten?

I don't want to give away any of the goodies in this book, but i found this book very good overall.

Have you listened to any of Mark McClain Wilson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to "kingslayer" where he did a great job. Definitely one of the better narrators i have listened to in a while.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Everyone who loves books/series such as: the name of the wind, the wheel of time, the legend of drizzt, saga of recluse and so on will probbably like this book. The only "bad" thing would be that only the first book from this series is out in audioformat so far, and i hope that audible will release the rest of the series ASAP.
