Historia
For half a century, we have been trained to believe that our right brain hemisphere is our emotional brain, while our left brain houses our rational thinking. Now neuroscience shows that it's not that simple: In fact, our emotional limbic tissue is evenly divided between our two hemispheres. Consequently, each hemisphere has both an emotional brain and a thinking brain. In this groundbreaking new book, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor presents these four distinct modules of cells as four characters that make up who we are.

Really Beautiful
Revisado: 07-14-23
A really touching, deep and impactful book that's given me a lot to think about and feel about and reconsider. I've done a lot of parts work in therapy inside and adjacent to Internal Family Systems and Taylor's 4 characters map on pretty well. I think folks with PTSD may need more than this book can offer to grapple with our character 2s. But this is a really fruitful and important point of departure!

This book is about pleasure. It’s also about pain. Most important, it’s about how to find the delicate balance between the two, and why now more than ever finding balance is essential. We’re living in a time of unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli: drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, sexting, Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, tweeting....

Essential Read for All
Revisado: 07-11-23
This book is really fantastic and thought provoking. Engagingly written and clearly narrated, it's changed my perspective on what addiction is and how to cope with the modern world. I've begun incorporating lessons from this book into my life and have already experienced a lot more peace and balance. I'll be recommending this book to everyone I know.

Historia
Despite all the welcome changes that have happened in our culture and laws over the past few decades in regards to sexuality, the subject remains one of the most influential but least understood aspects of our lives. For psychologist and bestselling author Julia Shaw, this is both professional and personal—Shaw studies the science of sexuality and she herself is proudly and vocally bisexual. Despite statistics that show bisexuality is more common than homosexuality, bisexuality is often invisible.

Weird narration, Beautiful Book
Revisado: 09-25-22
This is a beautiful, dreamlike book that connects to so much consciously and subconsciously. But I'm going to need to buy it and read it myself. The narrator pauses ever 2-4 words with no rhyme or reason. It gives the whole book this staccato feeling when it's actually very flowing and lyrical. It was really distracting and frustrating. It didn't feel like the narrator was actually listening to what she was saying.

Gorgeous story

Simard tells a really important story in a way that refuses to compromise on her softness, despite the criticism of a male-dominated forestry industry.

Historia
In Sanskrit, yoga means to “yoke.” To yoke mind and body, movement and breath, light and dark, the good and the bad. This larger idea of “yoke” is what Jessamyn Stanley calls the yoga of the everyday—a yoga that is not just about perfecting your downward dog but about applying the hard lessons learned on the mat to the even harder daily project of living. In a series of deeply honest, funny autobiographical essays, Jessamyn explores everything from imposter syndrome to cannabis to why it’s a full-time job loving yourself, all through the lens of yoke.

Historia
Where Every Body Yoga taught us how to do yoga, Yoke tells us why. Jessamyn writes about what she calls the yoga of the everyday - a yoga that is not just about poses but about applying the hard lessons we learn on the mat to the even harder daily project of living. This yoga of the everyday is about finding within life’s toughest moments the same flexibility, strength, grounding energy, and core awareness found in a headstand or Tadasana or cobra pose.
