It's a Romance Novel. Liked it, but don't tell.
Revisado: 01-04-23
I don't tell people I read Romance novels. I don't recommend them to others. I liked Bridgerton and so I listened to all the books. Now I'm listening to the prequels. This is one of the more unique storylines-- A British Romance set in America during the Revolution. As an American it feels a little odd to support the British, but I threw caution to the wind and cheered for Edward and his almost-but-not-really bride. I really like the narrator, although, some of the officer voices sound the exact same, but it is still enjoyable. If you like Julia Quinn, you will enjoy this book. If Romance novels are not your thing, this book will not covert you.

Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he'd proposed, figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except...she wasn't. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her... and more. Did he think she was mad?

The most interesting Bridgerton story so far
Revisado: 01-26-21
Eloise is my favorite Bridgerton. Her story deals with slightly more complex issues than the previous stories. This is a Romance novel, so it does still include the odd descriptions of sex that is typical of the genre. Sir Philip is an interesting choice for Eloise and his back story is complicated. You should read the books in order, but I do like this one the best.

Think of it as a collection of short stories
Revisado: 12-27-20
The performance is based on the comic books. The early stories follow a traditional story line. Later stories/ chapters are more disconnected but focus on the world of the Sandman. The full cast performance is very well done. Some of the later stories are less engaging. If you enjoy the comics and this type of science fiction/ fantasy, you will enjoy it overall.

Not a bad prequel
Revisado: 06-11-20
Prequels are tricky bc we know what happens to the character. This book offers a more extensive view of life in the Capitol after the revolution. It helps provide more context to reason for the Hunger Games. The character of Lucy Gray is interesting. She is a singer. That leads to some awkward narration. I understand why the narrator doesn't sing, but the speaking of the lyrics is jarring when it appears. Not a perfect book, but a decent job and enjoyable.

Historia
On a cold and snowy night in 1910, Ursula Todd is born to an English banker and his wife. She dies before she can draw her first breath. On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. For as she grows, she also dies, repeatedly, in a variety of ways, while the young century marches on towards its second cataclysmic world war.

Interesting idea, but exhaustive at times
Revisado: 04-25-20
I've been curious about this book for a long time. I'm glad I read it, but after a while Ursula's story became more repetitive than I liked. Since Ursula experiences so many lives, it can get confusing, especially when listening to it. I wanted to be able to flip back through the pages to see what all had happened in that life. As her life got longer, each story became longer. They were a lot of similarities at the beginning of her life and then some decision changes the course of her life slightly or significantly. After so many restarts, I found parts to be exhaustive. it is not a terrible book, it just wasn't great

Wrong narrator for this book
Revisado: 03-07-20
He has some interesting stories about his time in the FBI, but you do get a lot of background about his life that seems disjointed from the rest of the narrative. If you like Criminal Minds and Mind Hunters, you will enjoy a lot of this book. The narrator seemed too professional for this book. I felt like I was sitting in a college class being taught about the cases. I feel the narrator needed to sound more conversational, less formal. Davidson is telling you about his life's work, not teaching you to be a profiler.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Revisado: 12-17-19
I wasn't familiar with the case bc it happened so long ago. You do learn about the various crimes and this man did some horrible crimes. However, the process used to find the killer is fascinating.

A focus on the complicated mom/ daughter relations
Revisado: 10-08-18
I love reading celebrity biographies. I enjoyed learning about Field's time at the actors studio and learning from Lee Strausberg. However, to me, Field attempts to reconcile her perception and reality of her mother. This is not the best written biography, but it is one that offers moments to which I can relate. In that aspect, it stands out from other celebrity memoirs. I'm sure it was not easy to deconstruct the feelings she had for her mother who died in 2011. At times I felt she was writing this book to deal with her own grief. If you are a fan of Sally Field, you will enjoy the book.

Amazing Characters and a wonderful performance
Revisado: 05-21-18
I enjoyed the story of this unique group of characters. The use of multiple voice actors really made listening to the story an engaging experience. The character of Coco alone makes it worth the listen. The plot is interesting, but the characters make the story.
